I was going to ask the RPM range you're usually in...if anyone catches my drift. |

I catch your drift, Coche Blanco. "Not sure the clutch helps us much. We've found (because of our lack of power) that we're in 3rd gear 99% of the time on the track." And what makes the clutch suggestion a good one to consider, If you get a 222/365 race cam you will have more power in the upper rpm ranges. My 218/350 will pull a decent 70-75 mph in 3rd and still have power in 4th up to 90-95 mph with 5th being more of an an overdrive. Rev limiter at 6,000. You will go the full race cam and you should have lots of power in 4th.

Deck the head, go high compression. Add a megasquirt, I don't know what your budget is, but a standalone from megasquirt (they usually run in the $200 range) will probably gain you 10 HP. with porting high compression, and other mods. Volumetric efficiency gains must be tuned or else the power will never entirely realized. With cam, porting, underdrive, High compression, properly sized headers for scavenging and high flow, and a megasquirt, wouldn't be surprised to hear you get 20 more horses out of that engine. Not alot, but considering your likely starting with 50 hp, that's a 40% increase lol.

The megasquirt would require a wideband, dyno time, someone who knows tuning... Cost prohibitive. The rest makes sense. Is the stock clutch not able to handle 70 hp? |

It's lighter (the flywheel), that's the only reason to use it.

The GTi flywheel is significantly lighter than the G10 flywheel. Less parasitic drag, more power to the wheels. If you can find someone who'll tune it for you, I really think you should consider a standalone. Granted, that may be difficult to find. Wish you guys the best of luck!!! |

Doesn't have to be from a GTi/GT, just has to be from a 4 cylinder. Tuning is good and all, but the money for it just isn't there in this competition. A cam is your best bet. Edited by Coche Blanco, Feb 1 2011, 12:23 PM.

What from this list of clutches (I don't have to buy from here... Just a list) is something we want? http://www.partstrain.com/store/?PN=4294957184&VN=4294967194+4294966989+4294964377+4294964563+4294966856&N=0&Nr=AND(universal:0)&props=Category:Clutch |

3-tech has been emailing us and we will be using them for a lot of what we're doing. As with upgrading any car, it's always good to poll the end user for what they think is the best way to improve HP for this tiny engine. |

If your drift was to make an intake manifold designed with short runners for a resonant frequency to pressurize intake charges in at xxxx rpm, then I caught your drift. Speaking of which. I don't know what you guys have available by means of resources, but if you pick up some type of tuner's handbook, and some metal, you could design yourself an intake manifold for the car that would provide a nice gain. resonant frequencies can produce up to 10 PSI boost in a properly tuned intake manifold. (that's like running a turbo. That's more boost than what Z34-5 speed's was running!!! Science is crazy!) Not to mention that that will help eliminate the amount of exhaust gases pumped into the intake manifold by a large cam, and valve overlap, so you MAY (unlikely) gain some low end. Hey Doc, Nice to see you again. Matching the ports is a good idea. For the clutch. I weighed the G10 Flywheel. Stock it comes in at about 16lbs. With the G13 flywheel and clutch assy complete. Was about 14lbs. The G10 was only the fly wheel. You loose less torque spinning the G13 one. It also has a bigger friction disk. How much are you guys aloud to spend this year? I know it was limited to $500 last season. Can you go with larger over sized pistons? I mean really larger. PM if you can. Also can you go over the 1.0L and still be in your class? I will try and get here tomorrow. |
