I've had 4 Metros so far: A 1994 auto with a 1989 stick engine installed; 95 3-Cyl, 5-speed used primarily for Pizza Delivery (40 mpg average); 96 3-Cyl 5-speed (45 to 49 mpg city only); and just now a 1998 4-cylinder automatic.

It's easy to fall in love with these cars.

Welcome aboard, Jon B! Seems that your Metro experience runs the gamut as far as engine/transmission combos goes. Just being nosy, but I gotta ask the obvious, if your'e on your 4th Metro, what happened to the first three?

lol! Well, I gave the first one to a friend for help with another project. The purple 95 Pizza Delivery vehicle survived the worst winter we've ever had, and at 220,000 miles, it was pretty tired, so I sold it when I bought the 96. The 96 ran great: I once got 54 mpg of mostly Hwy miles while hauling a Taurus door 170 miles with the hatch open, driving up Grandad's bluff in LaCrosse, and about 50 total miles of city driving. However, this baby was also extremely rusted out. You could stick your hand through the passenger door from the bottom, and unlock it. That car is now delivering Pizza for Glass Nickel in Madison, Wi. since I bought this 98 SOHC 16-valve from the estate of a 92 year old woman who passed away (God bless her). You could call it "looking for the perfect Metro" I guess, lol. I really wanna get another 3 cylinder, but for now, I just want to improve the mpg of the 4. Eventually replacing the auto with a 5 speed. Thanks for asking :) and sorry that it took me awhile to reply.
