I put 0W30 in my car and it was using 1/2 qt every 1000 mikes or so, switched to 5W and its down below 1/4qt per 1000 (I did fix a small oil leak but it was not large enough to account for 1/2qt) |

In my best Mwebb voice: do not use any 10w30 ever in a 10G engine ===================================== to learn about engine lubricants navigate to "bobistheoilguy" study and learn http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ I actually did this BTW - I went to bobistheoilguy, and right on the front page is the first chapter of a very helpful article about motor oils. I feel much more confident now in recommending 0w30 over 5w or 10w, aside from the leakage factor. Did you know that 90% of engine wear occurs at startup? Engines designed to need 30-weight oil when hot need a viscosity of 10, all the time. Look what they get instead: Oil type... Thickness at 75 F...Thickness at 212 F Straight 30....... 250......................10 10W-30............100......................10 0W-30...............40 .....................10 None of these is thin enough at startup. 0w30 is closest, so its the first choice. ALL these will leak when hot at the same rate - same viscosity. Anyhow, Bob can explain it better than I can...... navigate to "bobistheoilguy" study and learn http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ |

it gets there the same time the thermostat does, and I don't care what those number say in my engine I KNOW 0W is getting used considerably faster than 5W |

GM 6094M, GM 4718M (Corvette spec) Ford WSS-M2C929-A Chrysler MS-6395 ILSAC GF-4 energy conserving API SM/CF ACEA A1/B1 that oil is of much lesser quality than the German Castrol (orange bottle) 0w30 which is ACEA A3 B3 , A4 B4 and they are about the same price mobil one 0w40 is also ACEA A3 B3 , B4 and test as a 5w30 in actual use and is about the same price but again a better product if you feel you need to use a "thicker er" oil this is the one either of the European spec oils should be good for at least 6k mile intervals as per testing by blackstone labs in an Audi a4 , but the 0w30 stuff you bought is not |

either one of the two i suggested would be great or BMW LL01 from a BMW dealer , in my area , that would be the cheapest , they are all of very high quality and because they are all about the same ACEA specification there is very little difference between them so any ACEA A3 B3 - B3 B4 or ACEA A3 B3 - B4 oil is an outstanding oil which will give you great service at 6k intervals many of them will be ok for MUCH LONGER service intervals and it will be cheaper to use any of them at 6k intervals ( study and learn at BITOG forums ) then using crap alleged synthetic oil or regular API SM , ILSAC GF4 at 3k intervals |
