Geo Convertible Roof Adjustment?; How do I adjust?

I actually do have a brand new spare top that I bought with the intention of placing on my current daily driver. My plan was to remove my current top, throw it on one of my other convertibles which have tops in worse condition (minor rips & tears), and put the new top onto my favorite convertible.

One of my neighbors thinks I am completely nuts, with me owning a Geo. He's commented that the mileage I get with the Geo should compensate for the sucky mileage my Land Rover gets (18 highway). Indeed, it kinda does look a little weird seeing a gas hog Rover and a gas-sipping Geo sharing the same driveway. Perhaps it's true of vehicles as it is often said to be with relationships: opposites attract! :D

Hey, I do not have a convertible, and have never owned one, so do not know much about them. However, I am wondering if there is some type of softener/conditioner that can be worked into the material to soften it, thus allowing it to close easier?
That is definitely something to look for the next time I am at AutoZone. And if there ISN'T, maybe I'll just throw together some combination of chemicals, bottle it up and sell it.

Check out this video and pay attention to the top part ( 5:08 ) into it. He pulls the top up and latches it before pulling up the rear top bow. I've had to do mine that same way even with the new top. The latch on the rear strap seems to lock up to where it won't open but once you can get it free the top goes up easy. Interesting. I was not even aware the rear bow was moveable.

I'm also having this problem. Our weather is such that the top can be down in the morning and needs to be up in the afternoon, so I need to learn how to latch it quickly. Is roof replacement to only option? Tight budget.

If you have tried to 'force' it to close by the center lever you may have bent the rod that activates the so called 'fangs'. If so you will have a bow in the top material about 2 inches back from the front and towards the passenger side of the car. The rod will bend in an arc and push the top material up about 1/2 inch for about 6 inches.

Congrats on getting it closed. The problem will show up again next time you open it. These shrink over the years being exposed to the sun as stated earlier. Time for a new top.
I'm in the middle of replacing mine with a cloth one. It is gonna look nice.
