Give me more rounds - compared to larger projectile , this from a combat warrior.

ANY gun makes someone want to crap themselves.
I had a policeman tell me that he had his service weapon pointed at someone's face and the guy acted like it was no big deal. As soon as someone pulled a taser and put the laser sight on him he dropped to the ground. This is one of the reasons I have a laser on my little gun. Nothing will make you crap your pants like having a red dot on your chest <G>.

My Keltec comes in .32 and .380 (I carry the .32)
When I was trying to figure out which one to get one of the big points I kept hearing from other owners was that the 32 held 7+1 and the 380 only held 6+1. The one extra round was enough to persuade people so I took their advice.

FWIW, the .380 version is supposed to kick like a mule (remember, this is a VERY small gun) and isn't as reliable as the .32 version.

Oh, I never addressed Zippy's comment on the reliability. I have one. My wife, my father and my friend have one as well (based on my recommendation). No problems with them after the initial break in period. I have done a little polishing to the internals on them so that probably helps out. The are sensitive to hollow points (they don't like them due to the shorter round) but that is the only real problem I have heard with them. The lifetime warranty is a nice thing to have. I have purchased a few used ones and sending an email to Keltec is the only thing needed to get new parts in the mail (no $$$ exchanged at all - not even for shipping). That is customer service!

While the red dot might intimidate some, it wont do a thing for some dude strung out on crack! I hope I never ever have to shoot someone! The legal issues after killing someone is what I think a lot about. Even though you might be justified shooting a guy that still will not keep his family from sueing and with our crazy justice system failures probably award a judgement against you and mess up the rest of your life.

I have a 12 gauge Mossberg shotgun with the shortest barrel allowed by law. I was told this model is called the "street sweeper' and is carried by State Troopers. The shells I bought are called 00.

I also have a Savage 22 rifle that seems pretty wimpy to me. That rifle took eight bullets to kill a raccoon, but the raccoon may have been out of its mind with rabies. It was walking around in circles and making my dogs go crazy. While I do not advocate killing animals for sport, I think I did it a favor since it was exhibiting demented behaviors. I also used the Savage to kill a mouse that was stuck in a glue trap. Oh, it was a sickening scene. The poor thing was chewing his leg off. I was afraid to hit him in the head with a hammer because I didn't want to get blood and guts all over myself. I decided to put the glue trap on top of a fence post and just shoot him. It worked pretty good.

I wonder if the rifle would be more powerful if I was shooting something far way instead of close-up. Maybe the bullets need time to spin around and get up to speed.

Anyway, I was thinking about getting an AK 47 one day or something that is as close to fully automatic as possible.

Engine Dr, here in Ohio the "Castle Law" has been passed. (3years ago?) Burden of proof is on the crook trying 2break into your house.
Between our dogs & weapons no one ever bothered our farm.
There was a couple of times they tried - trash quickly got owned.
Treat others as you would like 2 be treated.

Quite a few people use #4 buckshot in their home defense shotgun. I use birdshot in mine. I've seen plenty of self defense shows that point out that 00 will go through multiple walls (killing your wife in the next room). Regardless of what you use, if you shoot someone with a shotgun they will probably not make it.

The bullets are going max speed as soon as the exit the barrel. I don't fully understand the physics of it but a barrel with the perfect length makes a bullet go faster than one with a shorter/longer barrel. So, if you put a 30' long barrel on your 22 you are actually slowing the bullet down.

A have an SKS (same bullets as an AK 47). I would say that it is pretty useless as a home defense weapon and I would venture to say that an AK47 would be too (just my opinion). I see people buying AR15s for HOME defense all the time but I cannot understand why. You kill the bad guy, go through your wall, go through the neighbor's wall and then kill them. A shotgun with birdshot will work perfectly well. We shot about 10 different guns at a thick stainless steel plate that I welded a chain to and hung from a tree. We hit it with everything we had (gave a nice bell sound as the round hit it and bounced off) and then I pulled out the SKS. The bullets just went right through the plate like it was made of butter. Incredible that a .45 didn't even dent the metal but a 7.62 x 39 made it look like I drilled a hole in the plate. Amazing!

No such thing as something that is as "close to fully automatic as possible". You can only legally own semi-automatic guns (unless you have a special license and buy an older gun - I may be wrong about this but you are talking $15,000+ for a gun and that is just not me). One pull of the trigger dispenses one round. No way of getting around that unless you use something like my GAT trigger (cannot remember the brand name of the one I bought). I never have installed it though. Some day I will get around to it but I just haven't had time to mess with it yet. You can see a video of what it does below (probably not much use for the thing other than to waste ammo). Heck, I'll post a video of someone shooting a Remington 1100 (this is what I keep for my home defense) and you tell me if you need more than that <G>.

They passed a castle law in SC as well. When we went through the CWP training (03/2009) the guy said the law had not been tested in court yet. My understanding is the old retreat law stated that you had the duty to retreat forever until you couldn't do it any longer. Bad guy comes up to you in the Walmart parking lot and you just keep backing up until you are against the wall and then you can shoot. The new law states that as long as they are committing a felony (breaking and entering your home, etc) you have the right to shoot. My understanding is that if someone opens my window tonight and then runs down the street after I pull my gun I have the right to chase him for a few miles then shoot him in the back. Personally, I never want to shoot anyone so hopefully I will never be put in that situation.

Rule #1 - DO NOT say a thing to the police. Let your lawyer talk to him later. Whatever you say will be wrong and it will come back to haunt you.
Rule #2 - DO NOT talk to a reporter. They would love nothing more than to crucify someone who is trying to protect themselves.

I asked the man at the store what type of shells would stop a bear. He said the 00 would be good for that. I assumed that they would also stop a man who was trying to kill me in my own home. I like the fact that the 00 have a smaller spray pattern because my dogs will probably be around during any possible altercation. I wouldn't want them to get hurt while trying to protect me.

I think the SKS is the Chinese version of the AK if memory serves me correctly. A gun like that would be okay with me, but I have read that the AK is better in the field than the SK and the M16. I don't want one of these for regular home defense. I want one of these in the event of societal breakdown. Then I might have to shoot gangs of blood-thirsty thugs from an upstairs window after having barricaded myself inside with a year's supply of food. I know that sounds crazy, but I tend to agree with Thomas Hobbes regarding the nature of man.

You are the gun expert as far as automation is concerned. I think they make these kits you can use that makes one pull of the trigger release three bullets. If you pull the trigger once a second, it is pretty much the same as automatic because you release three bullets per second. I don't know if they are legal.

Guns are OK. I still have a couple but when you have to use one and take someones life, it can change you.
