Nope, you go to federal prison for a long time for that (10 years and $250,000 fine). I was doing some internal work to my Ruger 10/22 (making the trigger very very "light") and afterwards it multiple fired a few times. I don't think anyone at the range noticed and I am glad it stopped doing it because stuff like that can get you in VERY big trouble. No new machine guns (for civilians) have been manufactured since 1986 (Clinton gun laws). You can still buy an old gun but they are big $$$. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKS Me and my SKS (it is the "latest" Yugoslavian model with grenade launcher, bayonet, etc): Edited by rmcelwee, Apr 2 2010, 01:06 AM.

I think you have to have a reasonable belief that your life is in danger. Don't think I'd try that shooting a fleeing perp in the back thing, sounds like murder to me and I'm generally in favor of removing criminals from society by any means possible. |

I had a friend that operated on his twenty two auto trigger as well. He took it out to try it out and said it emptied itself in just a second. He was afraid of it after that. Here in Memphis several years ago me and a range master were big friends at a local public gun range. I would carry my hunting rifles every year and make sure they were right before going hunting. My friend had made the firing line hot and we had stepped into a little building where the targets were kept to get me a target. Well as you would have it, while we were in there some idiot fired some fully automatic high powered rifle several times and boy did that piss my friend off. He went over and raised a window in that building and commenced to chewing that guys butt out for firing that thing knowing that no fully automatic weapons were allowed. That range is closed now and I sure miss it. It was close to home, my friend was a one armed man with a short stub of a arm on the other side. He could throw a gun up on that stub he had and man he could shoot. I enjoyed sitting around there and seeing all the differant guns people would bring to shoot. Shooting is a good sport and these people who want to take our guns away from us do not understand its not the gun that kills its the idiots with their mental problems. Our justice system should make the crime fit the punishment for robbing and murder of innocent people. If the punishment really fit the crime, these idiots would think twice before dropping the hammer on someone for his money! |

The fact that they broke in is reason enough (meaning you do not have to PROVE that you believed your life was in danger). The SC gov't removed that burden of proof: SECTION 16-11-440. Presumption of reasonable fear of imminent peril when using deadly force against another unlawfully entering residence, occupied vehicle or place of business. (A) A person is presumed to have a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to himself or another person when using deadly force that is intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury to another person if the person: (1) against whom the deadly force is used is in the process of unlawfully and forcefully entering, or has unlawfully and forcibly entered a dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle, or if he removes or is attempting to remove another person against his will from the dwelling, residence, or occupied vehicle; and (2) who uses deadly force knows or has reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry or unlawful and forcible act is occurring or has occurred. I understand that perfectly (and approve of this new way of looking at it) but I still think that once he turns his back you have no legal standing. |

I have a Smith and Wesson LadySmith .38. I took "A" lesson" once and it scared the crap out of me. I have never fired it and never loaded it but it's in my bedroom. We can't concele carry here yet. The law almost was passed a few years ago but stalled somewhere. So if I want to take it with me anywhere I have to wear it so it can be seen. Can't have it in my car loaded either so if some a-hole decides to try to hyjack me or hurt me I have to said "Hold on a second Mr Mugger while I load this and shoot your sorry ass."

You should go back and try shooting again, but with someone who will take the time to get you acclimated to the surprise factor. You could start out with a .22 and work your way up to your .38, maybe some low pressure rounds before going to full loads. |

Yea see, that was the problem. He talked SO much BEFORE he even shot once that the anticipation built up in me and I got more and more nervous. I think if I could have just taken a shot or two in the beginning I would know what to expect but he just kept talking and talking and talking. I was expecting to dislocate my shoulder or break my wrist. I guess I could give it another try sometime. I have shot rifles before but never a handgun. I learned AFTER I bought the gun I should have gone with a longer barrel. They don't have as much kick. I was watching a reality show just a few nights ago where a woman shot a handgun and the recoil knocked her on her ass. I wish I didn't see that. I really don't like guns to begin with but so much home invasion, rapes and robberies I figured I'd better have some kind of weapon. I have other weapons but never used any of them either, they scare me. I have a couple midievil maces a friend made. One is made of wood with steel spikes and the other is smaller made of steel and really heavy and the spikes are lethal. I stubbed my toe on it once and almost tore the toe off. I moved it after that.

I just reread this thread, I would advise against birdshot, or at least progressively load if you want to use it. i.e. bird, #4 buck, 00 buck, etc |

or just use a net gun and a tazer. watch him flop like a freshly caught fish and noone in next room gets hurt, you dont have to kill anyone, and he goes to jail. (or just keep tazing him till you smell burning hair....) |
