I would like to get the widest size possible for my 91 metro, which has 12" tires. Also, would the change from stock size affect my mileage for better or would it get worse? |

Width depends on the rims you get and their offset. As far as affecting mileage, width won't affect it by any noticeable amount, however, diameter will. No matter what size rim you run, you want to stay with the same tire outside diameter as the stock tire to maintain mileage. What size rims you planning on getting?

You will be able to find much wider 13" rims than 12" rims. I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do with the tires but usually increasing a tire's width has limitations caused by the wheel as well (you need wide wheels too). Most "wide" tires are sticky racing tires and your MPGs will decrease when running them. I have seen 12" wide tires for 13" wheels (not sure what is stock on a Metro - 4" wide?) but something like this probably wouldn't even fit on a Metro without drastic modification. These are 8.5" wide (215/50) 13" tires:![]() |

I intend to stay with my 12" rim size. Just wasn't sure they made wider rims than stock. I'm mainly worried about clearance. |

Where are you going to find wide 12" tires? I've never seen them. 145 or 155 are the two main sizes produced. Same goes for the rims. You'd probably have to have them custom made. Wider tires will reduce your fuel mileage. Wider tires = bigger contact patch = more rolling resistance = lower MPG. How much it will reduce it, I don't know. You should be able to notice it, though. 13" has many more options for tires, if wider is what you seek. Edited by Rooy, Apr 1 2010, 12:42 AM.

Changing size and or width will affect fuel mileage. I would say you are lucky to find any size 12" tire. Good luck! |

Actually, Rooy, there *is* a 12'' rim that will fit on a metro and run wider tires. And probably without too many clearance issues, although I can't attest to that first hand (a little trimming might or might not be in order, depending on the tire you choose). I would also be somewhat dubious about running them on the street (which I can only assume is the intention here), but for instance take a look at this: ![]() (image courtesy of ->this cardomain page<- ) He has the stock width tires on the back ![]() For something more streetable, perhaps ->this guy<- has the right idea

the widest 12's ive seen around here are 155's, when iirc, 145 is stock. but the widest tire ive legally fit without too much rub was 195/50/14 azenis |

you can do some research yourself if you want to mess around with the possibilty of running wider tires. just google tire size calculator and it will take you to a comparisson site where you can compare two different tires your most important part is tire diameter. my personal opinion is 175/60r13. close to stock tire size and cheap. |

I guess 155 is the widest. It would have been nice if they made a little wider 12" rim/tires. I will stay with my stock size, don't want to mess with the mpg I'm getting now by going to a larger rim size. I was willing to sacrifice it a little in exchange for the better look that wider tires/rims give a car. |

I just looked at that cardomain page and he says they are 10" rims off a Yamaha Banshee 4 wheeler. |
