Wow! How time flies when you get pulled away from a project!!!

I finally got caught up on some of my machine shop work and got back to the Metro this week. I really wish I wouldn't have taken such a long break on this project because now it is going to be hard to remember how it all came apart! I will be using and abusing the forums :type

Since the engine was out and needed several seals and gaskets replaced anyway I went ahead and tore it all the way down Monday. My dad was an automotive machinist for 20+ years and was there to help me so I figured I might as well finish what I've started and check everything out.

Everything was standard size (bore, bearing journals, etc) but the head had been off and milled once before and there was evidence that someone had worked on the #2 cylinder. The cylinder taper was minimal but the piston to cylinder clearances were on the large side so we opted to have the block bored .5mm (.020") for oversize pistons rather than just hone it and put new rings in.

So now I'm waiting on the block to come back from being bored. The crank is also being polished or possibly ground if it is out of spec. The head is at another machine shop getting the seats cut, valve guides re-sized, new exhaust valves, and a light milling just to clean things up. It looks like the lifters will also be replaced due to wear on the top faces from the cam lobes (because the lifters weren't spinning like they are supposed to)..... so I might end up getting a reground cam. If I need a cam I will have to decide on stock vs economy xfi style :news but it would be nice if I can just run the original because this is getting expensive :shake

I will post some pics of the engine assembly when I get everything back from the machine shops! Thanks in advance for the help, I know I'm going to have several questions when it comes time to put the engine back in since it has been over 4 months now.
