Hi all out there in Geo Metro Cyberspace! This is my 20th post on here and I'm just now introducing myself. You guys have just filled this forum with way too much stuff to read so I kept getting sidetracked on my way to the introductions section. I live in Eastern Washington (Spokane Area). I bought a 1989 Metro Lsi 3/5 over in Idaho about 6 weeks ago. It doesn't take long to find this place after doing a Google search for Geo Metro I bought this car to help with my get out of debt plan. I have a 2005 Chevy Colorado that I bought brand new (stupid) and I plan to sell it as soon as I can certify that the little Geo is 100% ready for daily driver duty with no back up vehicle. I work 50% from home and 50% at a "regular" part time job with a 60 mile round trip to get there so I figured if I was going to downgrade my rig I should get something that gets good mpgs. I looked at a few Tercels, etc, but kept going back to the Metros.... I thought, hey if I'm going to get a cheap little car that gets good mpgs why not just go for the ultimate in that category. A quick fuel cost breakdown with the calculator sold me on the idea: I drove just shy of 20,000 miles last year in my truck at 21-22 mpgs which is pretty good for a 4x4 truck but nothing compared to the metro. I figured I could easily double those mpg #s to around 44 and decided to go find a metro to buy. So now here I am I don't know what happened! This little car rocks It makes me laugh every time I roll out in it and start passing people on the highways. I drove it to work a few times to see if there were any obvious problems and quickly discovered the transmission oil was low. So I changed and refilled it only to discover where it had all been leaking. So now what was supposed to be a simple replacement of the output seal for the passenger side CV axle has quickly multiplied into me being just a few hours away from pulling the egine/trans assembly out of the car. What have I done here? I took a drivable car and exploded it all over the benches in my garage..... to be continued in my project forum!I have to say, so far everyone has been very helpful and courteous on this forum. People respond politely and seem to get along really well. That is it for now

Thanks Johnny! Are you the one who started this forum? Strangely enough I am excited about working on this car. Normally I hate working on cars... not that I don't have any mechanical aptitude, but I just don't normally enjoy working on cars because everything is so cramped and you have to crawl underneath them, etc. However, the Metro reminds me of working on a motorcycle more than working on a car and that is a good thing because my background/business are in the motorcycle industry. |

Don't be daunted by the thought of pulling the motor or tranny. I pulled my tranny for a clutch change a month ago. The whole job took 7 hours and the transmission is so light I can hold it up with 1 hand. The engine weighs less than 100 Lbs. This is one of the easiest vehicles to work on that I've owned. |
