Hello all!

Great forum!

I am picking up a green 1995 Geo Metro with problems tomorrow. Will be my first Metro ;)

The motor runs, has 4 tires lest than 4 months old, and best of all, no body rust that I can see... wheel wells and Control arms and all...

The bad: Various dents and dings, smells like wet dog inside, passenger window will not roll down, leaking oil, and problems with the clutch and or transmission. Will be hauling it home on a trailer.

I have learned a lot from reading here, and feel like I should be able to get this thing on the road with your great informative posts.

I'd love to know what Geo Drivers/nuts/mechanics think the best upgrade/modification has been to their metro!

Thanks again!

Dave

Thanks for the welcomes!

The geo made it home with a small detour through the self service car wash to clean some of the oil/gunk off the engine and transmission, and toss some of the accumulated trash. Previous owner/ my cowoker is a smoker, and used the rear passenger floor mat as an ash tray, so lots of butts and ash to vacuum out. Have a first light going over done, but thinking of pulling the passenger front seat to get underneath vacuumed more completely.

Took the passenger door interior panel off to see what was up with the window not rolling down. The big dent in the door around the lock/outside handle area was my first guess... 12 inches of 1x2 wood and a rubber mallet have the dent pounded out enough for the window to roll up and down :D One problem solved in a redneck fashion!

I'm going to go on over to the projects section to post more, and ask some questions and advice.

Thanks again for the welcomes :D

Welcome to the forum, Airsmithy! :coffee

I used diluted Simple Green and my shop vac to clean everything in our cars because they had been owned by smokers. I t left a nice clean scent.

Certainly go through all your grounds, wires and connections and dry them well. Might spray them with WD-40 (water displacement)..

Welcome! I'm also a new Utah member. My '92 was given to me back in '08 with a broken piston (owner didn't know what it was at the time). The car was filthy, only mine was mostly dog hair and just dirt and stains on everything. I removed the front seats (easy) to get it all cleaned up. After vacuuming I used a scrub brush, light cleaner and water and sucked it all up with a shop vac. Mine had issues with the outside driver door handle (wouldn't open) and window (wouldn't roll all the way up). I finally put it on the road last week and I'm loving it. I'm still going through everything carefully, lubing, fixing, checking, etc. First mileage calculation was 57.2 mpg mixed hwy/town (more hwy).

Welcome Dave. If you have any questions about the clutch or trans send me a PM. I am back on line. Finally. I am not here everyday, but I try and help with the standard trans problems. Again welcome

92GoCart, Glad to see another Utah member! How well did the interior clean up? I'm thinking I will probably have to pull the seats myself to suck the smell out.

Mr Murf, thanks for the offer of help! I will probably be taking you up on your offer. I'm going to start with replacing the bushings in the shift linkage with this: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/accessories/accProductDetails.jsp?counter=0&categoryDisplayName=Automotive+Help+and+Miscellaneous+Products&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=426042_0_0_&productId=426042&sortType=&parentId=1314-10&filterByKeyWord=gear+shift+linkage+bushing&categoryNValue=101314&navValue=100448&fromWhere=&itemId=448-10&displayName=Clutch+Linkage+Bushing&store=882&skuDisplayName=5+pcs.+Chrysler/Ford/Jeep+1980-2005+Pedal+and+Shift+Linkage+Bushing+Assortment&brandName=Help

I also need to figure out if its just an axle seal or worse with the transmission leak.

My interior cleaned up much better than I was expecting. I didn't get any detailed before shots but there is one that shows the floor somewhat. Pictures are at the top link in my signature. This car was a smokers car but it sat so long that there is no smell left. It does need a driver seat cover as its worn through in a spot. I just spent all day on it tinkering around cleaning, checking, adjusting and lubing stuff.

That's my car not Airsmithy's but I don't mind, hehe. I tried to post them like that but it wasn't working. Are they linked from my picasa gallery or did you put them on another hosting site? Just curious how you did it cause I need to learn. Seem like every forum is different so it's hard to keep it all straight.
