Hi everyone Hollywood let me know about this site from Minibuggy.net and said you might be interested in seeing my project - this is not a rebuild and those of a you that dont like ripping your Metro's / Swifts apart please look away now!!! :O

It started like this:-

Swift shell gone (gutted of electrical and anything useful)

280 foot of tubing for the chassis:-

And jump forward almost 12 months to now:-

The whole plan for this buggy was to build it from as many standard Swift / GeoMetro parts so all the hubs are standard (adapted to work with twin wishbone suspension with bolt on mounting adaptors - so the car part is still standard) loom and all electrical was stripped from the car, steering / engine / gearbox / driveshafts etc (there wasnt much left when I had finished)

Anyway let me know your thoughts

That's really cool! What led you to pick the Swift? Besides its obvious charm, of course.

I suppose the engine is more apppropriately sized than most, anyway :lol

Thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated :D

To answer a few questions, I picked the swift as the engine and gearbox has a very low combined weight (67kg and box around 22kg) and this helps to keep the overall finished vehicle weight down to around 450kg (approx 992lbs) - I liked the fact that the entire block was aluminium and very compact - I also saw an import buggy running a new Swift 1100 motor which started me thinking.....

Anyway I will post some more shots soon, should be finishing off the front upper shock mounts this weekend with a bit of luck!!

There is only ONE way to make that wicked project even more pure awesome. Snap on fenders and wind screen and "street legal"

MAN would that be fun tooling around town in that!

OH CRAP just read the title IT IS street legal.

Nough said. that is PURE awesome :-)

Hey thanks everyone for the kind comments and the very warm welcome!! - I would be very interested to learn more about any performance mods (that I can get in the UK) - I do need to sort the Exhaust Manifold out as its pointing down at the moment and I need it to exit from the side into (what looks like) a motor cycle silencer - I will be finishing off the front suspension this week then moving on to the gear change, which im thinking of doing with hydraulics as I dont think a cable change will work to well

Anyway I will post more pics soon

You seem to be quite capable with a welder, you may just want to fab up your own header. The only really hard part is making the flange. Then you can angle and route it any way you choose.
