When I press the A/C button, the compressor and fan come on but the A/C will only cool the air about 10 to 15 degrees below outside temp. I think it just needs a charge, but it seems like it's very easy to overcharge the system and reading all the other A/C thread scared me out of it. Is there an cheap way to get the A/C to cool? |

A cheap way? Getting someone to recover and recharge to the proper refrigerant level would be your ideal situation. Actually if you are cooling 15 degrees lower than outside temp that is not bad. Have you checked the condensor cools to see they are clean? Wash thru them with a water hose. |

NOTE: Like what enginedoctorgeo said, use a water hose. But never, ever use a pressure washer. Only a water hose like he suggested, and you'll be OK! |

Is the fan for the condenser running? Do you have the control set at fresh air or recirculated air? |

I believe it is, I checked before winter last year, but haven't this spring. I tried it on both fresh and recirculate, fresh air seems to cool slightly better |

Ok, so I cleaned off the coils and it cools slightly better, but still only chills the air about 10 degrees at best. What should I try next?

You need to determine if you have the correct charge in it and if not decide to find the leak and fill or just get it filled. |

When I did mine, I just went to Autozone & bought the largest can with a gauge on it. Adjust the gauge according to outside temp. attach it to your low side port (it only fits on 1 of the 2 on the passenger side) & see where it is. I didn't have any pressure in mine. I added a can of pag 150 oil as well. Our system calls for 3.6 oz of pag 150 oil & 17-23 oz of R134. In total I put 2-3 oz of pag oil & around 20 oz of R134. Now it's blowing nice & cool All you'd need is prob. a small can...it's like 8 oz I think.
