Hello All!

Just wanted to say thank you for letting me join this great forum! I have posted a few questions on the "automotive forum" site and ran across this site today.

My Geo is a 1997 LSI, this car was originally purchased in 2000 for my ex-wife who refused to drive it! Long story short kept the Geo divorced the wife! So it just mainly sat in the driveway and I drove it at least once or twice a month just to keep it going. It is loaded air, am/fm, and was getting 36 mpg then. Paid $2200 for it. Well suffice to say I was going to do some "preventive maintenance" and was going to change the timing belt and you guessed it "if it ain't broke don't fix it"! and put the belt back on one or two teeth off ran like crap from then on. Had a buddy who said he could fix it and somehow it caught fire! Under the hood many wires burned So it just sat at the buddie's house for over 4 years! I went and got it when my buddy said he could not fix it.

Now this car had sat for 4 years I towed it to a storage lot and left it there for another 3 years this car had sat for 7 years wires burned never started until one day I said I was going to fix it Took me a whole month off and on working on the car new gas tank whole new wiring system, timed it (got the teeth right) and started it up! Now this was around 08 drove the car for a year had remarried new wife loved the car!

Then she wrecked it moved the front bumber in broke the radiator and airconditioner system car still would start! Junk yard parts to rebuild still running still gets 35mpg or better!
Folks I just want to say this is the toughest car I have ever owned! I will put it up against any other vehicle for durability and will never stop talking about this car to friends and strangers!

If I can take a front bumper (the plastic wraparound) that was literally tore from the front end, and beat it the guard behind it back into shape so I could place the bumper back in place screw it down use some zip ties to hold it on and the car drives like its still new no wobbles no shaking and still get on the road and drive 6o to 70 miles an hour this is one very tough auto!

Oh by the way the wife still drives the Geo will not let me drive it! It is her's!

This car would give the old WWII Army Jeeps a run for the money in durability and toughness anyday!

Thanks Again and look forward to talking with you all!

welcome to the forum, Roper1! :coffee

Great story. I got my 1974 Chevy van from my friend Jim when he remarried, and his now wife hates it for reminding her of the old wife. Good thing I got the Geo to drive over for visits, eh. :lol
