Only goes one way, the bottom of the distributor shaft has an offset key that fits into an offset slot in the cam. Don't force anything, if it goes in, it's right.

Yep, if its 180 out it won't go the last 1/4 inch or so into place.

Yeah had new ring in it and that got her to crank and run again finally.....but kinda stalls and misses when i accelerate. Thought of vertin back to the orig. module now that i know it is the distributor. Should i reset cpu for new dist. ?

It wouldn't hurt to let it re-learn the engine config, it will take about 30 minutes of running to reset to a new configuration so give it time.

i have probally drove at least 30 min running time and still doin it. I wonder if it running hot right before my spark problems crackd or blew head gasket? It seems to miss and hesitate worse in the higher rpms of each gear. If i switch gears faster than i would usually it dont jump as bad. Idle is off bad and missing too. I hate having multiple issues at same time tryin to figure out if there related. Whats the first sign or best way to check if this is problem and what does it sound like to u? with my water pump leaking like it does will a comp test be accurate? I tried to c if was fuel problem by changin grades and checkd plugs for fouling. also took cap back off distributor and lightly sanded the inner shaft of distributor bc i got one off another car.

check codes, if you show a 42 either replace the dist or your timing belt snapped. I just bought a 95 and the belt is broken, it doesnt crank free like its got no compression so I didnt catch it right away. easy fix either way. ive had dists blow up on me and they dont send a rpm signal. I got spares if you need, some junkayrds want like a hundred bucks, if your gonna get raped, send me a pm (if you do need one)

take the lead off the distributor from the coil and put it about a mm away from some metal (you can wedge the boot near something to get your distance, I use the strut tower) and crank and see if you get spark

I checked wire from coil on strut cover just like you said and its sparking good. Auto zone cant run codes on their cpu only 96 or newer so dont know bout that. I have a warranty on the distributor so i may try to swap out and find another. Ne other ways or tips on finding the missing problem in case cant find distributor?

no prizm is a toyota, and storm is an isuzu, will not fit. If this is OBD I, in the fuse box in the dash there's a diagnostic fuse port. put a fuse in it and count the flashes, each code is a 2 digit number. check the engine light codes in the metro tech forum post, its a sticky.

if you are getting spark at the coil, try the same test with plug wire 1,2,3. if that checks out you dont need a distributor or any ignition parts for that matter. (unless your spark plugs are bad... but all 3?

can you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key to on? should be a faint hum for 3-5seconds, and also come back on when you are cranking (youll have to stop cranking and listen to the last second after it)

sounds like something else is wrong for sure. if no fuel pump check the relays, they go

My next check is gon b the plugs b4 i run to charlotte. I wondered if that last distributor goin bad and unravlin like that couldve sent shock anywhere else? I will test the relays and listen for fuel pump, So u say every flash counts for two? Is this port labeled ive never seen it.
