Dave, peak under the rear end of the car and make sure you have shocks or struts. The complete set is struts in front and "shocks" in the rear, if so the 2 Rear 232027 struts would be what you want from the eBay listing.

But you have a 97 and the eBay link is for up to a 1995. They may have a listing for 97 but I have to get to werk... later.

Wow, that's a sweet deal. All four are struts and they're all the same, 89-01. I paid $200 plus shipping for mine.

And here is the link to RockAuto's rear "strut" www.rockauto.com/232027. They seem to be the only ones not listing the Monroe parts instead. But maybe you should call first to see that they are the correct parts and prices.

I suppose it's a "strut" in that it's merely clamped around the bottom and has a rod/nut top assembly. I still think of it as a shock outside the spring and we have McPherson style front struts. Semantics, eh. :whistle

It's a strut because it's part of what 'hangs' all the parts together and in place.

A shock setup, you can remove the shock and the car can still steer and roll down the road though there is no longer any dampening.

Remove a strut and you can't go anywhere.

some website

Although shocks and struts are a lot alike in function, they are very different in design. A shock is designed to control spring motion as is the strut, but the strut acts as a suspension part and sometimes replaces other suspension parts. Sometimes used as pivot points for the steering and as an adjustment tool for alignment purposes, struts can absorb side loads where shocks do not.

As JBD pointed out, we've got struts, just without the spring mounted on them. Another trivial point is that a MacPherson Strut used on the rear is called a Chapman Strut, Colin Chapman of Lotus was the first one to use them that way. One of my heroes, always fixated on "adding lightness", usually to the point that the car broke. :'( :banghead :O
