Greetings from Hoosier land. I'm looking forward to all the great advice I'll get here. So far in the Geo collection: 1991 5 door 3/5, which needed a new radiator and some bendy work after the previous owner ran it into a ditch. Brake work and new shocks/struts. Working great so far - last trip was 51 mpg. 1992 5 door 3/5, which smoked horribly and had been in deep water before I got it, witnessed by the sand in the rear lock mechanism. This was my first engine rebuild (new everything, including bearings, valves, rings, water pump, seals), steering overhaul, new clutch, and transmission replacement (bad 1st gear synchro). And no, I didn't lose the oil valve. Also brake work and new shocks/struts. Last trip was 53 mpg. Both have presently non-functional A/C - future project. Non-geo collection includes a 1986 Honda Civic wagon that has been converted to electric (20 HP continuous series brush DC motor, Curtis controller, 108V nominal LiFePO battery pack). I was planning on converting any Geos that could not be salvaged, but the relative ease of rebuilding a Geo engine may put this off for a long time. Always keeping an eye out for 5 doors in my area. |

Nice! Looks like you'll be able to contribute quite a bit to the site seeing as how you can already rebuild engines. What part of Northern Indiana do you reside? I live in Rensselaer, IN. If we're relatively near by, it'd be great to meet up. |

I'm in Fort Wayne. Have not only gotten used to, but relish, the snickers of people in SUVs towering over my car. I simply imagine them at the gas station. Specializing in wagons simplifies my searches - 95 or newer? Nope. Auto transmission? Nope. 4 cylinders? Nope. My brain can only hold so much information. It can handle G10 engine info. |
