Brand New Head Gasket Leak; Leaking Head Gasket
Topic Started: Jun 9 2010, 02:22 PM (1,454 Views)
crankcase

It does sound like you have a vacuum leak. The intake gasket, throttle body gasket, and worn throttle linkage bushings can be the source of a leak besides a vacuum hose. Spraying some propane ect. in theses areas (useing a hose to accuratley direct the flow helps) will affect idle if there is a vacuum leak. To check the vacuum hoses it is a good idea to pull the air filter holder off to get better access. Check the small hose that goes to the MAP. Listen for any sucking sounds and trace if found. Also check electrical plugs for good connections or any that are not hooked up.

Been chasing it all night. I think I can hear a leak but not certain. Spray Ether (Starting Fluid) around Throttle Body work the same as Propane? Would the leak cause the cold hard start issue.? Idle is acting like 1000 plus RPM...Thanks again.

Ether is a little more dangerous in my book, but will serve the same purpose. The vacuum leak will cause the idle to be high and possibly the hard start too.

maybe

but if you set base ignition timing and the closed throttle switch is not closed
MR ECM may not go to base timing

there is a fast idle thing that gets heated by two little coolant hoses to the throttle body area , if they get plugged up with do do ,
the metros throttle will not close
they stay at fast idle , forever .

allegedly the brake booster vacuum LINE collapses and leaks ... i never saw that though .
other s have .

propane is better than starter fluid , smoke machines are better than propane .
soapy water sprayed around intake can work also
