Dark, I have a 1998 and had a similar problem. I took the redneck solution to it. I added a push button remote starter switch to my Dash and wired it parallel to the starter circuit so that the OBDII would not read a fault. (Using 12 gauge wire. Twenty amp in line blade fuse from POS cable on the starter, wired to a Thirty amp push button momentary switch (from Rock auto.com cheap) on the dash, wired to a "y" that connects the push button wire to the Original wire then to the starter male that the Original wire hooked up to) Car starts and runs reliably and only looks slightly molested! Some people love the look. I push the button and turn the key at the same time and it starts (a must so you do not set a code on the OBDII computer). It is a bypass circuit. If your original wire is melted you need to trace it and find the cause or just replace it (the burned bits), if it is not grounded. Good Luck. Edited by calrenman, Mar 11 2014, 05:05 AM.
