hello all, i just bought a 94 geo metro 1.0 4 door hatchback and it needs a few things and would like suggestions from you all if you would plz. first i did a full tune up oil, oil filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv valve, air filter, i cleaned ther egr valve and the exhaust side that gos thru the intake and thru the head into the maniflod. now for the intake side i am wondering if i should take the carb off to clean the passage or will i be able to do it with it on? the exhaust is not that good so i want to buy new so any suggestions would be nice on that as well. i drove the car home 58 miles with no brakes (broken brake line) so i was wondering if i could splice the line or do you all recomend all new line. the car has 179 thousand on it. thanks for any of your replys. |

Welcome aboard! ![]() I hope you don't drive it anymore without the brakes. Is this a 5 speed? I assume you've been slowing down by downshifting, and that eats up the synchronizers on these baby transmissions; eventually you will not be able to shift at all. I'd get all new brake line, unless you know you can patch it so well that it cannot fail. Don't want to be without brakes again..... |

Welcome to our site. Please don't splice that brake line. Make sure you replace it. A bone yard may have what you need. If not most of the Napa's have genaric lines that will work. |

it is a 5 speed and i was slowing way down before i had to completly stop. it was moslty highway on the way home and i only drove the car 1 time and that was to get it home. i think it will be hard to replace the entire brake line, to be able to bend the line like stock and get the line tru tight spots, has anyone had to do this before? |

Welcome to the forum, geo runner! Could post a 'wanted' for a new brake line from one of our members selling parts? On cleaning the EGR passage, a small cable should work if frayed and attached to a drill. However if the exhaust side was really bad then removing the Throttle Body (TB) and getting a new gasket would be a good idea. Check out TB Rebuild Question. If you do remove the TB (drain the coolant first) you can check the coolant hoses on the passenger side to be sure that they are flowing coolant to the air valve. If you don't want to remove it be sure to check the hoses for heat when it's running. Exhaust? The cheapest I've seen is cut a muffler from a salvaged car and install it. Get a nice small Cherry Bomb or Magnaflow. OR buy a new muffler, your catalytic converter will come with plumbing and should be a 4 bolt hook up plus rubber hangar. OR my favorite, a wrapped SRD racing header, flow through Catco Cat. and Jones glasspack (loud) . You can increase part of or all of the exhaust to 2" if you want. To Cat. or not to Cat. depends on WV emissions and the OEM parts are always available for a quiet ride. Also highly recommended is a ebay.com/geo+metro+shop manual. Not the Haynes or Chilton.but the "shop" or "service" manual. Sometimes listed for cheaper than $55. Edited by Bad Bent, Jun 11 2010, 01:03 PM.

Just FYI these cars don't have carbs they're fuel injected, and what you're taking off is the throttle body

hello again, ok, i took off the tb and was able to get the egr port cleaned out real good reinstalled everything and it kind of ran worse so i did a pressure test and found that #(1) 130 #(2) 145 #(3) 35 so i geuss that the egr sytem had been cloged for a while to burn that exhaust valve on #(3) i have not taken the head off yet but from what i have leanerned that is the problem, so hopefully its a easy fix go buy a few gaskets a valve a back in bussiness. wish me luck. |

Exhaust valves just burn, no need to try to blame it on the EGR. It's a rare Metro that doesn't have burned exhaust valves at 180K. You should also put rings on it while you've got it apart, the head gasket and head bolts are one time use, to have to pop it back apart to do the rings is expensive and aggravating. Many times a fresh head job will just pull oil past the old rings at an alarming rate. |
