Where to begin? 1- The left (driver's) door needs a gear in the window mechanism...is there a kit available? Is it cheaper to just get another door? Are doors available? 2- The engine is not original, it is one of those 40,000 mile Japanese engines and the various vacuums don't line up. It runs only when fully advanced, black soot in the exhaust and slightly less than average power. Good compression and all. How do I determine what year engine? Is there a book available on engine swaps? 3- Are left front fenders available? Where? 4- I need a good website that handles used parts. 5- Someone put a 1-1/2" exhaust on it from the catalytic converter back. I got a new muffler ($51) The Zone, but exhaust piping is not available. 6- No hubcaps, can these be purchased online? 12" tires/wheels 7- 1st and 2nd gear usually require a double clutch to engage...I understand there is a downshift "block" that prevents you from shifting in 1st until you have come to a stop...is this so? If so, how can I adjust/remove it? I am refilling the tranny with Pennzoil Syncromesh and a few squirts of Graphite in an attempt to smooth things up. 8- The standard service manual doesn't offer much help yet it is a huge volume. 9- Are rear struts available for less than $51/ea.? I need both. 10- The heater/defroster blows somewhat, with warmish air, but it doesn't cut the mustard in the winter. There is a door partially or fully shut somewhere and darned if I can figure it out. Water circulation is OK, heater fan works great, there is a new thermostat and it works fine, radiator fan cuts in and out at an idle...works fine...no blockage at radiator front, radiator clean. Flushed system repeatedly, checked for the ghostly, rumored bubble in radiator...non-existent. Fan runs madly on high speed but little warm air comes out of defroster or heater outlets. 11- Where can I get an interior mirror replacement? The Zone offers many parts and then again they have huge gaps in parts availability...50% of the time it is "Not Available" Any help would be greatly appreciated owlafaye@yahoo.com phone: 509-399-2025 |

Most of the questions you asked are simple. Used body parts/parts in general = eBay, or a junkyard Check the timing on the engine. i can go into 1st when I am still moving. You probably can't because your 1/2 syncros are worn. |

EDIT: Coche beat me to it, and gave you the short answer. here's the play by play: 1. Try Car-part.com, its an online database of junkyards. Also contact Samp or PA,metro, fixer, frames, etc - they have lots of spare parts. You could also post a parts request on MetroParts.com. 2. I would check the timing belt to see if its off a tooth, do a compression test, and check all the vacuum lines. 3. See #1. 4. See #1 5. 1.5" exhaust is standard on these cars, I just bought pipe at NAPA. 6. See #1. 7. Your synchros are probably shot. double clutching will help, but you will eventually need a new tranny. Synchromesh fluid will help some. You shouldn't need to shift into first except from a stop. That sort of thing is what eats up synchros. 8. not sure of the question. 9. Since you are buying new, I'd google 'geo metro struts' and go with the cheapest option there. 10. Did you flush the heater core itself? That may help. 11.See #1. Hope that helps. the service manual "assume" you already have the basic knowledge needed to use it. If you have this knowledge (it won't take you long to get it hanging around here and doing your own work trust me its fun) it makes more sense. |
