engine swap; 92 to 96

I am wondering if i can do a direct swap of an XFI 92 engine & tranny into a 96 base geo metro? thanks for any help.

Are they both 3 cylinder 5 speeds? If so, sorta. You have to change the computer. I do not suggest you do the said mod though, the 95+ models are heavier and if you think it's slow now, just wait. Unless you drive for pure fuel effiency.

ahh use caution this is technically not legal. Your allowed to put a newer engine in an older car but its usually not legal to put an older "dirtier" engine in a newer car.

IE the older engine would be expected to blow what the 96 engine blew in emissions which of course its not likely to be able to do.

so check your laws etc..

You're going to need a crankshaft sensor which means you'll need to swap oil pumps. Might as well swap everything on the front end, newer cars had better belts and pulleys. Just use the block and head, EVERYTHING else must remain with the car.

That's going to be a very tall transmission, dog slow on accelleration.
