CAR NO GO! HELP! OK we replaced the timing belt, tentioner, front O2 sensor, cleaned all the sensors and the damn car will not run long , stalls, poor idle,We dropped the exhaust an it does the same thing, checked the timing, seems OK, checked the coil with a meter and they are within range,we installed new plugs..O2 sensor and plugs carbon fouled within an hour, running VERY VERY rich..ANY IDEAS? found no wires disconnected, no error codes, car ran fine before we did the work, so much for scheualded maintance |

I'd guess timing is off by a notch (probably retarded by 1), did you check timing by a timing light or just by looking at the belt and pulleys? By timing light it should be 5-8 degrees advanced, 8 is better. hehe lol your engine is retarded ...maybe...

I would like to thank the profesional moron Asst Manager at my local Auto Zone for selling me the wrong plugs that caused the stalling and misfire, after reinstalling the old carbon covered plugs the car started and ran again, I drove it to the auto zone and told him of his mistake, he refused a refund as the plugs were now USED and not returnabe. ..so I got my $17.90 screw job and waste hours trying to track down the problem, the car still runs very rich but it runs and drive once again, its now giving me an error code for the other O2 sensor by the cat converter....I will not go to auto zone again...just my 2 cents... any idea where I should look for it running so rich besides the rear O2 sensor?its beer time for me, hope it is for you too

good work on fixing the misfire, that's really annoying, some of the people working in those stores have no idea what they're doing and won't admit it. Your cat may be dead, a bad cat can cause the rear O2 to report rich. Also be sure to check the coolant lines at the throttle body a clogged line here will cause the car to think the engine is cold and run more fuel than necessary.

is there a way to test the cat converter? there is a lot of exaust flow and no "rotten egg smell" I took the plugs to another auto zone and got store credit (better then nothing), they know of that guy and smiled when I called him a worthless douche, hey $18 bucks is $18 bucks these days

are you kidding? $18 is almost a whole tank of freaking gas :-) good job on getting the credit. Report the douche to HQ probably won't do anything but you will feel a little better. you replaced the front O2 maybe it was the REAR O2 ? are you still getting coded for an O2 ? |

So you have the coolant lines and the compression check to do. I'll ask if you checked the gap on the plugs and what about the distributor and rotor contacts? The plug wires are OK, and on tight. Vacuum hoses and electrical connections like the IAT and TPS. |

easiest way is to check the Mode 6 test result for the Cat if the test is a pass , cat is "good" if test is a fail , cat is "not good" TID 01 is the cat test if your scan tool does not translate Mode 6 the Auto Joke scan tools do not have the ability to View or See Mode 6 test results , because auto joke sux and the personnel do not have a clue what it is . see "GM Mode 6" select your car from the listings be aware if you fail the cat mode 6 test you can remove the rear 02 from the exhaust and carefully place it near the LF upper strut top connected the system will run and pass the cat mode 6 test why ? i dunno , a major software error , that GM does not know about .... right . anyway , it does work.

Im going to do the seafoam treatment this weekend (personaly I always thought it was a scam, how do you burn off black carbon and get white smoke and if it losened up carbon deposits would they not collect in the cat convert and plug it up more??) but Ill try it.. its a 99 with a 1.3L fuel injected motor so no cap and rotor and I replace the O2 upstream becaus that was the error code, now Im getting the other one.. back to spark plugs, anyone know what brand and part number I should use in a hi milage motor? I was thinking NKG,its got Autolights now and would not run with the Champions that Auto Zone sold me ...thanks ! |

Most of the white smoke is something they put into it to make it smoke (so the consumer has a visual indicator that its doing something its a psycology thing) they have a new Aerosol can seafoam that I LOVE. makes it soo much easier to do the throttle body run!! |
