OK confirmed, the solid pinky red one has continuity to the relay (same color there) There's a white with blue stripe that appears to have battery positive, and another (can't recall the color) that has power when the key is on(ignition) the 4th wire at the relay has -.6V and is not a ground(should this be a ground?) or does it go to the ECU (is the ECU on the positive side or the ground side of the fuel pump switch circuit) I checked the relay in the fuel injector circuit and it works fine, and I used a known good relay to test the circuit, no go. The relay is not clicking and this is wire not being a ground is definitely the cause, there's no ground on that wire and there should be, I just can't determine whether it should ground to chassis, or ground through the ECU. If its through the ECU I've fried the ECU (the relay did click before I started testing it now it doesn't) If its just a regular ground I can take care of that myself. The fuel pump is getting power on the pinky-red wire when I short the connection in the relay, but the pump is not turning on. I'll double check in the morning that it's got a good ground for the pump. If the ground is fine, then I have a bad pump as well.

I checked the black wire going to the pump and its got good ground, so that's not the problem. Fuel pump is definitely not working with good voltage to the plug under the seat, time to drop the tank and test the pump directly Also, the ECU is not letting the relay turn on (but it was before) All fuses are fine, I think I cooked the ECU fuel pump circuit I've got another 91 so I'll test the car with the other ECU and see if that's truly the problem, as well as tracking down the pump issue tomorrow.

I think I found some new headlights for her ![]() ![]() http://www.ilovebodykits.com/product/22319/Spec_D_93_97_Toyota_Corolla_Halo_Headlights_JDM_LHCOR93BH_.html http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/1997/Toyota/Corolla/Headlight/Headlights/ There are a lot to choose from here that can be modded to fit the swifts, I'm going to try and see if I can get a set to fit in the metro hood, in case they won't I've got the swift front grill in white, all I'll need to get is the hood. Ok I'm stumped... I switched out the ECU for the one in my convertible, still no change. I put the original back in... nothing... Then I switched on the wipers while the car was sitting (key in on position) and the fuel pump came on. Car started right up, and the relay closed properly by itself... So for now the car starts and runs fine. Any ideas on what would cause that kins of symptom? maybe bad grounds somewhere? |

Today I also figured out where the brake fluid has been going and why there's no paint on the drivers side frame horn. Brake fluid(which eats paint) has been leaking from in between the brake booster and master cylinder (or is that the proportioning valve, the metal part that attaches to the front of the booster) there's a trail of eaten paint down the front of the booster and down onto the frame. Is there a washer that can be replaced at that junction or does it require replacing the part? |

OK, I put the back seat in place while the engine was running, and it died, fuel pump was off. I took the seat back out, and it works again, back in it dies. Eventually I figured out it was caused by putting the drivers side front of the seat back in place. Problem must be in the wiring under the seat. I wiggled it around a bunch while installing it and now it seems to be working fine. I still don't understand what's going wrong here, but its tied to the back seat (lower half) |

Possibly a broken wire inside the sheathing? |

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking now. I'll probably re-run the wires under there sometime. What gets me though, is that I had current at the plug for the pump, and when I plugged it in, the pump didn't run... |

I'd definitely suggest replacing the wires. I had one going to the injector that broke inside the sheathing and the engine would run sporadically. As the engine would vibrate the wire would make contact then it would shift and the engine would shut down and not run for a while. I would check all the plugs, grounds etc and then it would run for a while. Took me way too long to find the break right at the plastic where the wire goes into the plug. Finally one time when I checked I saw a discoloration of the insulation and on closer inspection found the broken wire. Holding it together by hand got the engine to start and run immediately. Swapped in a new plug and haven't had the issue in over a month. Best of luck! |
