Parts prices have gone crazy.

Title says it all. I called up the local parts stores to find the best prices on a set of exhaust valves. Normally I would have gone straight to NAPA no matter what, but here's the laugh:

NAPA: 19.50/e + freight
Schucks: 15.00/e
Auto Zone: 17.81 + freight

..... 3 Tech: 9.00/e + shipping -- I wonder who I'm going to order some parts from?

Only problem I'm having, how do you order parts from him? Via e-mail?

Sir, yes sir!

Yeah, timing belt bearing is almost $40 everywhere I look (2000 1.3) but partsdinosaur.com has it for about half.

Also wheel bearing prices have gone up quite a bit.

I needed to get some caliper pins for a dodge today.
Everywhere I called wanted $20 to $25 for a set of 2.
I accidentally called one of my wholesalers, (they are closed Saturdays) and he had the set for $3.29 :O
Just a lucky coincidence. He was checking on some "vanished" inventory and picked up the phone when I called.
I thanked the good Lord, and drove really fast to get my replacements.

For me the bigger issue is the quality of parts has fallen.
It's all crap these days (other than Centric rotors)

It's not all crap.
But you definitely have to know what you want.
What to look for.
What it's worth.

Case in point... I drop off a newspaper every week to the Parts Plus dealer. They are all good friends and maybe I buy something and besides it's nice to hang with friendly gear heads in this small town.

I'm repairing a pump, ordered a $20 bearing and went to pick it up. It wasn't sealed, they think it was packaged wrong, they'll return it. Thy youngest counter guy said "that looks like this bearing that's been lying on the counter for a year." ...and it was the same bearing. We all had a laugh and they gave me the old bearing for free. :D
