Hi I joined a few months back when I bought my first Metro a red 1990 with 1.0 and 5 speed manual. I needed a new clutch so I paid my room mate to put one in for me. Since then it has consistently given me 40+ mpg. Most of the time I get 45+ mpg. I primarily joined to get information go the Geopaloza West. :( Sadly I missed it :( . I then lucked into a dark Green1998 Metro again with the 1.0 and 5 speed manual. The owner was going to sell it for scrap since no one had responded to his ad for about 4 months. It would start and run but needed to keep on the throttle to keep it from dying at lights and stop signs. My room mate and I did a compression test wet and dry, we are guessing that it needs the valves rebuilt. I was hoping to save some money and take the head off myself. :banghead I hope it doesn' :banghead t get the best of me. If anyone is in the Fallon - Reno NV area I would like to get together and help do some wrenching on the weekends. I hope to grow out of the total noob stage soon.

One way to get out of noob is to watch other mechanics work on cars. Watch videos on YouTube. I was confident I could tint my windows after some YouTube tutorials. Do your own tune up. Start collecting tools.

When I log on the forum, I start reading at page 2 or 3 of New Posts and read every post except For Sale and Wanted topics. I've learned a lot.

Care to post the numbers of the compression test?

Try Seafoam Maintenance only use a 1/3 in the Throttle Body (TB) the first week, 1/3 through the brake booster vacuum hose the second week (or sooner) and the TB the third week if you feel you need it. It could help unless those compression numbers are really bad.
