hello,

well i have decided to just replace my burnt vavle for now and save money to do a complete rebuild down the road. this weekend i took a sparkplug socket and did the hammer trick with the rag over it and still lost a keeper, i did not see it fly across the room or hear it for that matter so i think it might still be inside the head somwhere so i had turned it over and started to shake it and all the other lifter fell out :banghead . so now what? i dont know which one went where. also do the new valve come with lifters? any sugestions will be appreicated

Ah c'mon now guys. We all know you can run with a missing keeper!

Just kidding.

I know its not funny to this guy, but earlier when I first read this thread, I got a big chuckle when I thought about him looking all around for that keeper and then spilling all his parts. I could imagine a few choice words blurted out. A magnetic tray is a must when you are dealing with them keepers. I used a spring compressor on mine and was careful with the stick magnet not too lose any.

I would play Eeny, meeny, miny, moe and stick em in a hole. Its not going to matter.

I once lived in an RV for a few years :rasp .
Small space + a lot of stuff = :shit
Plus, I'm not very good at keeping neat and tidy. :shake
Anyway, one day I was rebuilding a head and brought it
inside to do the work. I thought I had one of the valves in good, ^o)
but a keeper must have been a little skewed and PFUTHRINNNG....... :x
every goes flying, and who knew where, all over my untidy trailer. :banghead :banghead
It only took me a couple of hours to find everying. :ermm: :banana

On the little pistons, your are probably OK to put them where ever.
If you are really woried, do what people do when they may need to replace them.
See if they are within spec. If so, all is well.

Post a new thread in the wanted section and most likely some camper will fix you up.

Try a large pickup magnet. You can get a big one at harbor freight for $15. That's probably $14 more than a keeper, but probably easier to get.

A keeper should be pretty easy to get on the "parts wanted" section of the forum.

:gp Lifters don't seem to matter. About a year ago, I did the exact same thing you're doing now, just replacing the one burnt valve. I accidentally dumped out all the lifters, so I just stuck them back in anywhere. That was about a year ago, and no problems yet! ^o)

I happen to have a spare head here. The cam and lands are badly groov-ed. I'll see if I can pull it apart. Do you want the valves too? I have the cam also but no upper bearing caps.I also removed the cam sprocket for 3tech.It's from an early 90's Metro.

It's that or the recycle bin... :cheers
