Welcome to the forum. Have you tried to hot wire the fan motor directly? Just to test. |

Steam is coming OUT of the radiator or OFF of the radiator?

Do you have power at where the wires go into the fan? Then at the relay, then the fuse block. Where is the last place you have power in the system? Sorry but electrics are not my strong suit. I am sure one of our friends will be by soon. |

it was comming out of the overflow tube for about a half minute and stopped , did not indicate over heat ,so i jumped the fan direct to the battery and drove 20 miles home and on over heat {65mph} still wonder why the fan stopped |

Are you sure the sensor you replaced is for the fan? |

yes , there are two of them one is for the gauge other for the fan thermos ---i have a manual and verifide info with parts store , we were on the same page ----if this is something new only thing i can think of is theres a break in the wire somewhere ---- and why would the ecm deside only to stop the fan ? |

Are you trying to say that because you saw coolant coming out of the overflow hose that you think it was overheating? Do you have a coolant recovery tank? Have you replaced the radiator cap? |

yes to the recovery tank , and the cap is new , the fan worked great before ,and i checked to make sure the thermostat was working ok with the cap off and checked temp of water ,fan kicked on at 190 ,closed cap ran perfect till last week , now in progress of changing ,pistons ,head , water pump , timing belt, oil thermostat ,gauge sensor , one mechanic said disconnect ecm and let it reboot ,but make sure engine is ok ,all cooling system components are good and see what happends , would that be true? |

I doubt it's the ECU. I suspect a wiring issue. |

are you sure it NEEDS to come on? its not supposed to come on when the engine reaches temp. it only comes on when it OVER TEMPS at a specific point. ie if your radiator and water pump are able to compensate for the heat you generate the fan will never turn on. Today in this 97" 80% humidity day my fan turned on exactly one time. keep an eye on things and try CLOCKING your radiator (like you might in the winter time) with cardboard. See if it comes on. For example. in my 88 cherokee it runs at 210' the aux fan only comes on at 226' so as long as I stay below 226' that fan will never turn on. Edited by nerys, Jun 22 2010, 09:05 PM.
