I remember that at one point I was amazed by the number of temp sensors on a 3cyl Metro. I can't recall the year but there were 3 sensors on this car. 1 for the gauge, 1 for the ecu and 1 for the fan switch. Is it possible that the sensor you replaced is for the ECU and not the actual fan switch? Also the easiest thing is to trace the power back from the fan motor and find where it stops. You could also check the sensors by measuring the values when you dunk them into boiling water. |

if you're changing pistons, head, etc. you're already correcting what i suspect was the problem. it sounds like a blown head gasket to me. you've done all the right tests and corrections as far as i can tell .... hope you did a compression check. it also could have been a blockage of the coolant system but i think that is very rare. old rad hoses can collapse and restrict flow occasionally. i might have tried looking for coolant loss by bypassing fan switch and 'manually' running the fan ... then using as normal for a while if it stayed in its usual temp range. the fan comes on around 212 degrees as i understand ... if everything else is working properly. |

Hi hotdiesel80- I'm with Mr Murf 59, I'd trace back through your system from the relay that works back through the wiring harness, to the switch, to the fuses, to the battery. Keep in mind a relay is an electric switch so you'll also have to trace the switched power back through the wiring harness, to the fuses, to the battery.
