This is in my 94 XFI. Have a noise in Left front around the wheel or suspension. I get a single "snap" or click noise pretty often now when braking. First thing I thought of was control arm frame rust but this body is mostly rust free. I've jacked it up 3 times & can't find anything loose. Also getting a click when going over certain bumps in the road. That noise reminds me of a bad stabalizer link [don't think that's spelled right] Ball jts are tight, control arm bushings don't look chewed up. Any ideas? Feel free to jump in. |

Hi Car Nut- First thought was outer constant velocity joint may be on the way out. Second thought, as the click is associated with the vehicle body is moving in relation to the front left wheel, maybe the top of the McPherson strut is loose. It might be loose as an assembly, or it might be a tight assembly loose where it bolts to the body. I would think this might make a deeper clunk sound however... Then, it might be the brake caliper rattling on its guide pins. Or it might be the brake pads rattling in the brake caliper. A lot of my cars make clicks and clunks... Edward |

My first guess would have been the CV joint as well. |

only one click make sure the center nut on the stub axle / outer cv joint is correctly torqued . make sure brake caliper bracket and pins are not binding and not loose. put your eyeballs very carefully near / on all the suspension bolts a loose one will leave a little witness mark / ring with a possible fine rust ring around that as it flexes / moves , it may not be very large . |

I had clicking going over bumps and it was the rack and pinion. One tie rod had to be replaced. Just a thought.

Check to make sure the rubber thing at the bottom of the spring is still there. Sorry I dont know the term for it, but It keeps the spring from rubbing or vibrating right against metal. It might be making some noise when u hit bumps or turn it at an angle. |

It's definitely one single click, pop, whatever, when it does it. Sounds like some good ideas of things to check. My first thought was the upper strut bolts were loose, but naw, they was tight. I'll have to scope out that CV & the caliper next. Been focused on the front end parts mostly. |
