one-forty's broken stud

Hey, guys!
Today I rotated my tires (switched fronts for rears) and one of the 10mm studs on the brake drum had broken. I am using Mazda rx-7 alloy spares which were intended for a car with 12mm studs. What should I do? I don't even know where to get 1 10mm stud to replace the broken one, much less how to change all 16 to 12mm. I cannot afford to upgrade to the bigger discs in front, so it is all about the studs, right now.
On a side note it has been almost exactly one year and 35000 miles since I installed my used motor. When should I start thinking about taking off my intake and exhaust manifolds and cleaning out my egr system?
I just ordered some kyb struts for the front of my car, and am going to cut one spring all the way around as per the "lowered" thread on this for.

I would try to drill it out with some nice drill bits. I have a busted exhaust manifold stud in my '89 Ford Probe GT's head & I tried an easyout/bolt extractor & it just busted off & made the already bad situation worse... Now I'll prob. have to remove the head just to get the dang thing out, so I would just drill it out & rethread it. That's my plan anyway...

Don't know where to get a 10mm stud, but the remainder can just be pounded out as it's press fit from the inside.

Edit: looks like NAPA has something that will work.

Sometimes when you break a wheel stub, you might can get lucky. After you drive the broken wheel stud out you can put the replacement in with out a press or a lot of banging. Start the new wheel stud into the hole that it goes in. Take 4 0r 5 washers that are a little bigger than the stud. Place them over the new stud. Take a lug nut and turn it around so that the flat side faces the washers. Tighten until the stud is seated. Now you can remove the washers and the nut. Works very well on older rear wheel drive cars when you break a stud in the axle. But it a pretty fair way to replace studs if you can get the old one out. :banana :banana :banana :banana

The stud just pushes in from the rear.
Lucky it was on the drum and not the disc.
Car Quest sells the studs from their Doorman stock.
I am sure other stores have them as well.
Remove the drum,
Set it open side down,
use a large hammer with a large punch to drive the stud out.
Turn the drum over,
Set it on the tire, you will want to use one of your old steel wheels for this.
Line up the other three with the holes in the tire,
Push your new stud in the empty hole,
try to align the shoulder as square as possible,
drive it in with your hammer and punch.
Re-install the drum and tire,
!Voila!
you have repaired your first broken stud.

Hey, homies!
Got the 10mm stud from NAPA- hammered it out and installed it with a lug nut and two washers. I cut one coil from each spring, and installed the fronts on some new KYB gr-2's( using some $9.99 spring compressors from Harbor Freight). I also ordered some Gorilla 10mm bulge acorn nuts to better mount my Mazda rims to my studs... However the new lug nuts are so long, they stick out from the side of my wheels like a semi! Also because they sit farther out on the rim I am a little concerned that they may not be grabbing enough threads. I just don't want people staring at my big nuts. My car needs an alignment now as it pulls to the left a little. I used a hacksaw to cut the springs, so I am sure they are not perfect... Oh, and I'll have to replace my arm, too.
I am excited to get on the freeway, and see how the rig is going to feel- unfortunately, an alignment is 700 miles away as I don't get paid until friday.

Next project- Remove alternator, and gut it to make a pulleynator, or idlernator, and run on a deep cycle battery.
