CB, you know the things to look at and I'm pretty sure you know what you can and can not fix by this time. For 500. I would buy it provided the typical frame issues are not present and that the body, electrical, etc are all functioning regardless of engine condition if I were closer to it and did not currently own one. Only you can tell if you should

See but already have a Geo...I can't justify having 2 that need possible engine rebuilds. |

couldn't you just bring a 17mm wrench with you and turn the camshaft gear nut? |

At first I read that and thought, that would be hell with a ratchet. Did you mean with a ratchet or an impact wrench/drill? |

either of those, I'm pretty sure a wrench would work. ratchet would probably make you life quite a bit easier. |

I think you missed what i'm saying. You have to have the engine spinning a few hundred RPMs to get a good reading. so I would HAVE to use a drill or something... |

The starter mounts to the tranny/block IIRC. So w/o a transmission it can't connect. |

Do a leakdown test. You'll need an air compressor, or a large air pig, but there's no need to turn over the engine. |
