Holy Cow, that's nasty! I will keep in mind that one should not feed engines any fasteners no matter how much they beg.

Man.... , I just don't know what to say after seeing those pics. I feel your pain. Hope you and your "friend" can still be after this. My old boss was doing a tuneup on a car once. He was leaning over the the engine screwing on the spark plug tip onto the new spark plug. Seems he dropped the tip. "No problem", found another replacement tip and screwed it on & installed the rest of the plugs. Started the engine & guess what? " BIG PROBLEM" Where do you think the missing tip went? YEP, right down the spark plug hole. Tuneup turned into a rebuild. Not a happy time around that shop for a few weeks. Don't think the boss ever bought any plugs with replaceable tips after that.

well i sent my girlfriend to gather my block from the machine shop in town,
she comes back, with just a bare block.
no crank, no rods, and the OS postions in the box i brought them in,
when i initially took my block in the work i had planned to be done was

bore/hone
check crank
check rods.
press rods to new pistons

but she came back with none of that.

i dont understand how that would happen -.-

but i called the place the owner said "he didn't bring the block in so he didn't know what was in it"
and said he would dig into it tomorrow and call me back.

now please someone explain how a shop loses my rods and crank

edit****

for the record

i brought my block in complete, so they had to disasemble it

and it looks like to me, none of the nuts/bolts/studs (what ever is in the damn block)
are gone, like my check oil thing.

still need to figure out how to clean the rust out

does anyone see if any "stud" is missing, or that my crank area where my bearings go is kinda scratched(tiny small scratchs) is that alright?

guy said he would call today, today is here no call. -.-

so i decided to call him,

asked if he figured anything out about my situation.

said "they'd find it, and i could come in tomorrow"
this is the paper i got from them when i took my block in

it SAYS all the work i wanted done.

so i do not understand how they forgot about my crank and rods
i cant keep the guy on the phone to even get any questions in.

im starting to get really pissed off.

my gf payed 80$ to get my block back

i dont even think they resurfaced it.
so i paid 26$ a cylinder(i got quoted 3 times on the phone from this guy 135$ for all the work i wanted done)
im just so confused and do not know how to deal with this situation

If it were me, I'd be down there wandering around, asking polite questions, not getting mad or frustrated. It's OK to ask the same questions over and over. Go when you can hang around for an hour. Sit in the lobby, read a book. They will resolve something just to get rid of you. Don't leave unless you are satisfied with the answers you get. Or leave and come back in 30 minutes and ask more questions. Take the block and ask questions about how it was repaired. If they promise something get a note to that effect as a reminder for you.

It's OK to have a blank stare on your face if someone tells you something you do not like. I did this with an insurance company only a little differently. I called, had a list of questions. Got the name of the person and called them back the next day with the same questions. On day 3 they turned me over to their boss. I did the same thing. I think I got high enough on the 3rd person that she asked if I would just pay the paper fee and they would cancel the policy and stop sending me bills for the policy I had already canceled. After a long awkward I agreed. :D
