Okay I am back looking for help. Need to locate retainer clips and fasteners. Every time I removed a panel I destroyed the retainer. Don't have the sizes or I would order from and on line company. I also have a few areas on the body that have been pushed in, no crease, just small indents. Body shop say don't fill may crack after painting. What say u guys? Have yet to get to L.A to look at rear bumper covers . Any idea what I should pay for one in good shape. And can someone give me an idea on finding door handle clips. When I rebuilt the driver side window mechanism, I must have destroyed the clip or lost it in my garage. used the "put the rag under it and work it up to remove the handle" Yep it is gone. Bill, I am still trying to get don there. Dave (old guy) Henderson, NV |

Thats ok, ... You will make it when you show up. Exactly what clips are you talking about? The Red (on the doors) and gray (rear side trim panels) interior ones? |

interior pushpin things http://teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=47672 you need the m8 size for the interior, the m6 are used in a couple places like under the hood. the window crank clip, look at autozone, the replacement GM window cranks use the same clip I believe, or just grab some when you're at a yard. I think I may have a spare from my last trip, I'll check and PM you if I do. I'll just send it to ya if I've got one

Okay guys , got a problem, and I hope not a real problem. Went under the car today to check the rear strut/shocks. found that the control arm, it runs from suspension arm on one side of the car to the other, Has two brackets underneath the spare tire area with ruber bushings, each with two bolts attaching it to the underside. Hope you understand. ONe of the brackets was rusted away and that side of the control arm was loose as a goose. My questions: can I remove that arm without to much trouble. It appears that there is only a nuckle on each suspension arm and if I break those loose the arm can be removed and I can repair the rusted out bracket. Dave (old guy) Henderson |

that's the rear sway bar. It attaches at 4 points. One bolt on each control arm, get to it on the bottom easy, and 2 bolts holding on to the underside of the car in the brackets. I have one side rusted loose on mine too, it seems like a very common rust location on these. Its easy to take off and get back on, you shouldn't have any trouble. Once the bolts are out it just lifts off, be careful it will probably fall out when you take the last bolt out There is no spring tension on it when the car is sitting level so no safety issue there.

Thanks, got it off, rusted bolts and all. What do you think about either keeping it off or just building a pad and bolting it thru the underside? Dave |

I'm about to install one in my 91 vert that does not have the mounting points, easiest to just drill 4 holes into the spare tire well and use carriage bolts smooth side up as not to puncture the spare. a reinforcement plate wouldn't hurt anything I wouldn't leave it off, it (along with the front bar) dramatically improves(decreases) the cars body roll in turns.

That's is how I added sway bars to my 92'. Used large pan head screws through fender washers in the tire well to mount up aftermarket urethane sway bar mounts. |

You can drive without it, but don't try any fast maneuvers. It's going to understeer like a pig without that rear bar on there. What our cars really need for good handling is more rear bar. |

Heres what I did: fab two 3/16 in steel plates, one to be used as a filler under neath the body, the second one used for inside the spare tire well. tack welded to bolts to the inside piece using the sway bar bracket for measurement. This way my wife would not have to hold the bolts for me when I was under the car replacing the bracket and filler piece. I happened to find a Forum blog dated 2/2009 with my exact problem. One last question, do the links at the end of the sway bar require sleeves? When I pulled it off there was a lot of play between the bolt and through hole. Maybe excessive wear? None of mine had sleeves, the tension on this part is strictly vertical, just make shore the nut below the control arm is tight, that's what bears the load on these. when one control arm raises (like in a hard turn on the outside wheel) the sway bar lifts the inner control arm at the same time resists the lowering of the outside one, distributing the turn load to both wheels and reducing the lean of the car. Its a torsion spring that resists being twisted. |
