Name is Jason. Just recently purchased a white 1994 Geo Metro from a gentlemen on Craigslist (my first successful/satisfying purchase from said site). Metro has 109,000+ miles on it and everything seems to run fine.

I plan on overhauling this Metro into something different/fun. (As if the car isn't fun enough already, right?) I'd like to use get it to the point where the radio station I manage can use it for promotions, etc.

Random info/questions regarding my Metro:

-The guy I bought the car from labeled the vinyl on the car as "Metro pinstripping". Has anyone else run into a model with the same stickers on the sides? (I've removed them since Wednesday)

-Running into some issues with the shifter safety pin not pulling back when the brake is pressed in. Took out the middle console to remedy the problem (aka pull back on the plastic pin myself when needed)

-Metro has vacuum brakes. I've been told that there are some Metros with power brakes from the same year and I could easily find said brakes on a junker and make the install. (True?) Better brakes would make my life easier in this thing.

-Plan on repainting the body black and tint the windows the same.

-Need to reduce road noise, especially in the rear near the muffler (ideas/suggestions?)

-Anything to improve the color/brightness of the instrument panel at night?

-Would love to upgrade to better wheels/tires ASAP. Thinking 15" tires would work without issues. (True?) I think a buddy of mine showed me a blue Metro from this forum that had 15" tires installed. (I looked like it had just rained outside in the photos.) Loved the rims on it, too.

-HATE the steering wheel. Only thing I can compare it to is holding a really skinny persons hand. Any suggestions on upgrading the steering wheel would be appreciated.

That's a good start, I think.

Feel free to direct me to any other threads addressing any of these issues/questions.

Looking forward to sharing my experience with all of you.

Be seeing you.

Vacuum brakes ARE power brakes, non power brakes don't have the vacuum booster, all metros came with power brakes.

My auto metro, you always have to pull the release by hand to get it out of park.

The instrument cluster can be removed, the lights just go in the back, and LED replacements can be used, its very easy to change, the color is in the bulbs, not the cluster so color change is easy as well.

15" rims can be had, but make sure you get the oversize lugs necessary for proper mounting.

The stripes just aren't me. Plus... I plan on painting the entire car black, so the stripes would need to go anyways. Actually... I removed all identifying stickers/labels from the car, including the Metro logo and Geo logo on the back hatch.

As for the power brakes... I was having a brain fart. Meant to say power booster. Still assuming it's possible to find the power booster on another Metro and easily installing it to work on my Metro?

More pics/updates to come.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Well done, removing all badges and labels is the first thing I do to every car.

All Metros got power brakes, there's nothing to swap out that you don't already have. What is the exact problem? Is the pedal hard to push? Maybe the power booster you have is bad, or a very common Metro problem is for the vacuum line that feeds the booster collapses inside and won't let anything through.

Howdy, You'll love these types of cars. Eventually you will become addicted like a dog to mailmen. Start with the simple stuff, then work your way up to the more complicated things. We are here to help. Don't be shy to ask questions and if you don't get the answer that fits your problem, just keep trying.

Thanks everyone.

Funny comment... since I've actually been able to drive the car, it's rained EVERY SINGLE DAY. I'm considering renaming the car "The Rainmaker".

Welcome to the forum, l7productions! :coffee

Take a look at http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/ You can use some kind of Hu$hmat or insulating sheet material, add a layer of carpet insulation. I got 40 sf. of bubble/aluminum foil mat to put under the carpet and behind the panels. It's OK. If you pull the panels try spray foam caulking/crack fuller.

Add a down turned tip to your exhaust. B-)
