Really close to buying the 4door auto and doing the auto to 5-speed swap. I was wondering if anyone had done it before and exactley what are all the parts I will need besides a transmission. I dont want to buy a whole donor car then be stuck with it after the swap.

ya... It's just towing it will be a pain. Especially since I am trying to get johnny to help me with it and it would require towing the car to his place. I would do it myself but I dont have tools, my dad does but I dont think he would like to have a geo sitting in his driveway for a week+ if i did it alone. I am not experienced with these cars and I work alot. I already asked johnny If he was gonna part his geo out since the frame went. That would make things easier... I also talked to him about making a DIY for the site and being the 1st to post a DIY. I am unsure on his want to do this project but I have asked him and he hasn't said "no" yet. :)

The 4 door im buying is pretty much a very nice rolling chasis. The auto tranny is going out and the engine is rough, figure its like a rolling chasis that can tow itself for now lol. Hopefully I can pick it up foir like 300 and drop another grand in a rebuilt had and cam from 3tech, and my manual swap. Then I will truely have a nice 4door 5-speed. I know you like them too CB! next year I expect me AND you to roll up to geopalooza in nothing less then tricked out 4-doors. lol

Good bye

Your 4-door also has a 1.3l 4 cyl. You need to find a 4cyl stick shift car to have all the right pieces. Johnny's Christine is a 1.0l 3 cylinder so that is a much larger swap. I made a 3 cyl engine swap in my 95 4-door but it already had a stick. I bought a complete but wrecked parts car for that swap.

Sorry, I assumed it was a sedan (95-01), So it must be a 89-94 4 door hatch, you will need to have a parts car of that series so the axles & brackets will fit, pedal support and cables etal. Also the correct ecu and harness, maybe you can find a "er" ecu and an xfi tranny. I found a perfect xfi front bumper, headlight doors, and hood at a local wrecking yard and I scored a second "er" ecu on Monday. :)

Its a real pain in the behind to do this much work. It can be done. But its much easier to buy the correct one to begin with. If you find a donor car at your local bone yard. Buy every single nut and bolt. Everything. Or it will eat you out of house and home. Here is a very basic list.
Trans
fly wheel
pedal assy
shift assy
mounts
It goes on from there

I found a 93 cyl with WORKING AIR for $400 needs valves and some frame welding (has not broken yet but its close) I THINK its an auto (looks like an auto shifter in the picture) but man a nice 93 2 door with working air is sooo tempting at that price. a metro for summer and a metro for winter.

I am thinking about taking a stab at it just for the air. would it be easier to put the AC from the 93 into my 94 or to get a 5spd tranny to put in the 93?

That's not a great price...unless it's really nice?

why not? seems like a decent price for a running 93 metro 3cyl with working air. would cost me about that to get all the parts from a pick and pull and do the work on it.

what would you think is a good price?

not a "great" price, i mean, it's alright. You can always try for lower.

I've done two of these swaps and would suggest that if you really want to go through with this that you find a junk donor car. That way you will have everthing in one place when you do the swap. You can take the parts off the donor and know right where and what to put on yours. It can be done but I don't think this is a project for a novice. Ken....

The forum poster PM'd me about doing this job. I would take it on in a heartbeat, but just like all you guys stated, I need both your car and the donor car here to make it happen. A few missing parts can totally screw a job like this up.
