Dragging caliper / overheating brake; front brake overheats and drags

so I did the front pads and rotors a little while ago on the solid disc 12" front setup... like 7000km maybe. the calipers were sticky and crappy, but after pulling out the slides and re lubing them and putting it together, I was satisfied enough to drive it. it worked fine till the other day where the front left was literally smoking and slowing the car right down. it had to cool down before I got it home every few blocks...

anyways, I buy a rebuild kit for the current caliper, slides fine, retracts fine. throw it together and the same thing happens... so I yank it all apart, and buy a brand new caliper with new slides and boots and it bolted right up. but again same problem..

this whole time ive been using the same overheated pads and rotor on that side, but again the wheel is really hot...

so before I go yanking out the master cylinder thinking its not letting pressure bleed back on that hydraulic system, I want a little advice. ive never had an overheating brake before... could it just be the pads? they are overheated and are dragging.... or should I replace the MC?

It's just the front left that's sticking? How about a bad flex hose? They can collapse internally and act like a one way valve.

You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly where I'd be looking too. The exterior of the hose looks to be in great shape, yet the interior collapses in on itself and doesn't let the pressure subside to release the caliper.

Matter of fact, I have a bad hose on the RV I have to replace yet. Thanks for reminding me! I probably would have forgotten all about it, and we plan on taking it out this weekend!

hmm... well there was pressure on the bleed valve after I limped it back to the garage, as soon as I opened it, the wheel spun freely

its an old ass car with lots of kms on it. can a bad MC even cause these symptoms? and yes its just the front left

but as its in the garage now, I cant get it to hold pressure in there. it has to be driving and causing heat. the actual fluid in the resevoir was warm too when I got it back. front brake smoking...

A bad master cylinder can cause a lot of issues. In this case, I'd put money on it being the flex hose.
