This '92 Vert was a great find in Indiana for only $250.

Originally from Illinois, the story on the vert goes like this:
The couple that I purchased the vert from had the vehicle for 5 years, mostly spending that time in their little garage. The first two summers it did not see more road time, as the wife misplaced the key not too long after they first got the car. The next few years it was driven very little, until this summer when they decided to upgrade to a SAAB vert.
The car was purchased from a shop that towed and repaired the car after the out of state driver ended up disabled on the side of the road. Apparently, the tow and repair work exceeded the what the young owner wanted to spend and he signed the title over to the shop in lieu of payment. The PO purchased the vehicle from the shop.

It appears that the young guy fancied the vert to be a racer...

Thanks, but actually, I have not done an inspection to see how great the deal was for $250.
The drive (with the trailer) to get to the car should have been 2.5 hours, but ended up closer to 4 hours with all the detours, farm equipment on the road, and pouring rain...
The drive back was better at 3.5 hours, with all the same obstacles, except Amish buggies instead of the farm equipment.

I looked over the car in the rain and decided that it was worth the price after the drive. After I found several pounds of loose rust chucks inside the rocker panels, the PO and I agreed on a much lower purchase price. I think that he was just tired of showing the car, several people came, test drove, and said that they would think about it. I am confused why someone did not snap it up quickly, I assume that the painfully loud exhaust was too much to think logically...
The exhaust is extremely loud (only has a red hot for a muffler), the rocker area under the doors has extensive cancer (although the arms are solid), the rear window is cracked/taped, and the driver's door hangs heavy and rubs the fender.

I will go through the car more in the morning to see what else I can find.

All in all, I think it should turn out to be a great deal.

The Verts are a different steel, the horns do not rust. Find you a doner car, and cut the rockers out of it and weld them in on your car.

Oh, I was not aware of that, I am going to read through the vert specifics now that I actually have one...

All the donors that I have seen locally were rusted out underneath.
I think that I saw a '96 coupe at one of the Ray's in Maryland that seemed pretty solid underneath.

I'd agree with CB on that 'lucky' statement, but would probably have to add DAMN LUCKY :drool I would have had no hesitation to grab that up, the rims alone look worth the 250. Nice score !

Why you Mutt!

Take a trip out here to California. Should be able to find a dead, straight, unrusted convertible out here. If it runs good, it's worth $250 just as a parts car!
