Duct tape heals all wounds

Don't tell Jittney they are bad in the snow, she took a ride in one to the junkyard that was unbelieveable :lol I didn't have any problem getting around in the winter myself, although it wasn't much of a winter here as it usually is, the snow fell everywhere else :lol

i poked around on ebay a little and found these goodyears i guess they are : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/145-80R-12-12-MUD-SNOW-Tires-4-Ford-Festiva-Geo-Metro-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZSectionQ2520WidthQ3a145Q7cAspectQ2520RatioQ3a80Q7cRimQ2520DiameterQ3a12QQitemZ350358457042QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

even with good snow tires
the metros suck in the snow , my Passat or my Audi easily out perform my metro and the Audi has Michellin Harmony LRR Highway tires on it , not snow tires .

the Geo metro transaxles do not have anything to keep one side from slipping relative to the other so if one wheel gets loose
you are dead in the snow . (pun intended)

but
there is a thread in this forum with other wheels that will fit
you can search on craiglook not craigslist for wheels from the list
then get snow tires to match
Nokian Hakkapalita and Bridgestone Blizzack snows outperform every thing else by no small amount
also available on craiglook

some of the Hakkapalita s are LRR tires

i am leaning toward car white's solution ...
move south ... but my wife does not like big spiders or snakes .
hmmm I OWNED as in used to own a 1998 audi a4 avant quattro,it had brand spanking new yokohama all-seasons on it,and it sucked ass in the winter in every sense of the term sucked,it would spin like crazy starting off, wouldn't stop worth crap it'd just keep sliding forward, tried going up an unplowed driveway,it set the tires spinning like crazy tire by tire instead of locking a set of wheels,it took me like 5 minutes probably to get up it,i used to have toyota previa's and have driven subaru's that would utterly disgrace audi's,any other vehicle that was awd or 4wd got up that driveway unplowed before, finally got rid of it cus the transmission started slipping with only 100,000 miles on it!!!!!

i have an A4 quattro AEB engine with 5 speed transaxle
it does not have any problem even driving off road on snow / ice as long as there is room for the floor of the car to not ride on the snow ,
with Michellin Harmony all season LRR Highway tire s
no traction control except what is provided by my right foot .

so
if you had that much trouble in the snow with your Audi ... with an automatic transaxle and traction control ?,
you should just park your metro this winter .

imho

Last winter was severe here in Illinois and I have a 183 mile daily commute. I put the Firestone Winterforce tires on both my Metros and I was deeply impressed by how well the cars work on rutted snow and ice with those tires. The fact that I bought them for only $28 each was icing on the proverbial cake. If you drive a Metro, you have a lot to lose if or when you ever lose control or if you ever need to evade someone else who has lost control. A good set of snow tires that will last you several winters seems like a very small investment in safety.

I would imagine the goodyears should suffice, they look like they have good tread and then i don't have to risk losing any mpg, though i can't say i'd be driving a metro too far in a snowstorm!!!just would be nice to not have to worry about getting stuck, but it should do fine on the highway or whatever, but I definetly wonm't want to go up any unplowed driveways besides the risk of bottoming out there's always the risk of getting stuck behind an audi,jk :lol
