For the waiter part, just keep my glass full and you will get tipped. Did you go to the big 3 stores like wal, k mart and sams? They have a PC up front for filling out job applications. Just drive around and apply, apply, apply. |

I had a buddy that worked as a waiter at Don Pabelo's (a mexican restaurant). Descent looking guy, he would flirt with the cougars. He would come home with $150-200 cash tips every night. That's not bad, just remember to take care of your customers and they will take care of you. |

I've applied everywhere today. I turned in...15 or more (paper) applications. I have no work experience...I think that may be hurting me. Online applications are worthless, or at least to me they are. I'd like more tips/sob stories if you would. Waiter job didn't work out...said they didn't 'need' anyone. But they hired another girl (who is an awful waiter according to my sister) a few days later. Edited by Coche Blanco, Sep 17 2010, 01:55 PM.

I just applied for 'beer tap cleaner' position. A free service for people who serve alcohol on tap. Might have made $400 a week part time. Interview went well. I get an email that they hired someone else and were training them. That was last week. I was on my newspaper delivery job Thursday and one convenience store manager said her friend did the job. This week she said her friend still had the job and why did they interview? So, it looks like they lied to me and discriminated against me when they said they did not think I could do both jobs - paperboy on Tues., 1/2 Wed. and Thurs and their job on Monday, 1/2 Wed, Fri and Sat. i will no longer apply on-line to an agency. Not one contacted me all summer.Very likely they filter the apps electronically before a human resources person sees them. Keep trying.

I lost my job at the Saab dealer. (they closed due to poor business practices) I did a few newspaper applications. No luck there. I knew I wanted to stay in the automotive repair field. !Idea! I grabbed the phone book, Went to the Dealer section, and called every dealer in the book. Asked to speak to the Shop Foreman, or Service Manager, Told them I heard from friend that they were looking for some one to fill an opening, Asked if I could have an interview - before - they put out a want ad, from the 150 or so dealers in my area, I got 6 interviews. Most said I was mis-informed. I went to work the following Monday for Ward VW, Audi, Volvo, Maserati. Worked there 2 1/2 years till I had a severe difference of opinion with the Foreman. I am sure you will find something. Keep your chin up, and your ear to the ground. Don't be afraid to ask for help, or to ask people you know or meet if they know of work available. Take a lower paying job, build a good work history, (no time off for stupid sh-t, always show up on time, etc) Then look for the better job. Watch; "The Secret of My Success" with Michael J. Fox It'll give you a good laugh (to keep your spirits up) and take your mind off the negative. |

Um, Schultz, considering CB's nature, are you sure you want to recommend he watch that movie? Isn't that the one where he was sleeping with his aunt ?

YEah baby! Thats the branch for people with brains and brawn! Look at this dude how sharp they made him! Oh wait, thats me. Man if I had just stayed in I would be drawing that pension by now and probably be a Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted mans rank since I had the brains and brawn!

It was his "Auntie Vera" in The Secret of My Success. [after sex] Brantley Foster: Can I make a personal observation? Vera Prescott: Um, anything but the thighs. Brantley Foster: You know, somebody sold you a bill of goods and convinced you you had to be 21 forever. I think you're terrific; I think the only thing wrong with you is your husband is a jerk. You're beautiful, you're intelligent, you're sensuous... Vera Prescott: Say that again! Brantley Foster: Which part? Vera Prescott: All of it! [sounds of car] Vera Prescott: Oh, no. Brantley Foster: What, what is it? Vera Prescott: It's the jerk. [Brantley rushes to the window] Vera Prescott: My husband. Brantley Foster: My uncle! Vera Prescott: Your what? Brantley Foster: Oh God, that makes you... Vera Prescott: Auntie Vera? Brantley Foster: Oh! God! [Vera laughs] Brantley Foster: Oh God, oh God, oh God! What's my mother going to say? I've disgraced my whole family! Vera Prescott: Oh, the hell you did! Other memorable quotes at www.imdb.com/quotes

I hope you find something soon. I respect very much the fact that you know that the military is not your cup of tea. I retired after 20 yrs of service. Some of the folks that came in as a quick way to get away from home or for a quick job.......figured out it wasn't their cup of tea and tended not to do very well. |

Applied at the local Pizza Hut, not the one across town. I'll call them later this week and ask. I'm also applying at KFC and Captain D's. I gotta get my Geo back.
