Hey guys,

Have a few noises that I was hoping you guys could help me figure out what to do about.

1. When the car is in natural and the clutch not depressed a loud sound kinda metallic in nature. The sound only happens when the clutch in not depressed once the clutch is depressed or when you put it in any gear the sound goes away. What might be causing this noise and how can I fix it.

2. Thump...Thump...Thump, when driving the passenger front wheel area is making a thump that seems to happen every rotation of the tire. As in at slow speeds the thump is spaced very far apart and increases in regularity as the speed increases until about 40 when the sound goes away. Any Thoughts?

1. Maybe throwout bearing. Back off the clutch cable adjustment a couple turns & see if it goes away. Bearing tends to be noisy if the cable is adjusted too tight.
2. Scrape cat or squirrel off of tire. Sound will likely go away afterwards.

you may have a bad tire, rotate them and see if the noise moves, its also possible you have a bad CV joint.

Sounds like transmission bearings to me. Input shaft rotates in neutral with the clutch out and stops with the clutch in. Inspect the tranny oil, the drain plug has a magnet built in and will collect metal if the bearings are coming apart. :(

Probably an input shaft bearing going bad.

When you press the clutch pedal, does it feel funky? Kinda like it has lumps in it. I would look at the clutch, and inspect the trans. IE, open it up. As was mentioned above. With the car in N, and the pedal in the up postion. Only the input shaft is turning. Once you push the clutch pedal in. It free wheels. So have a look inside. It could be the input bearing, or the one on the back side of the shaft. If one is bad, replace them all. They will be eating the metal particals coming from the bearing, or damaged gears. And they all have the same amount of miles on them. Hope this helps.

FAH......well I rotated the tires and the sound the thump went away on the test drive. But on the same test drive the check light came on... :shit .... Got Home...code 51. So I pulled of the EGR and Whoa a complete Carbon block. So my dreams of 100 mpg on hold why I clean out the carbon. Mabye when I get done cleaning the EGR my idle will drop from 1200 back to the rec. of 800.

On a side note. Is it all right to spray carb cleaner into the ege ports on the block (i.e. the holes filled with carbon left open when I removed the valve pics to come soon

Pull your exhaust manifold, run a some frayed speaker wire in a drill from the front to the back of the block while spraying in carb cleaner from the side. Get a couple different sized wires to do it with.

That 1200 rpm could be due to a vacuum leak? Also possibly clogged coolant hoses on the Throttle Body above the alternator/water pump? :dunno They get hot when the engine is running.

EGR has nothing to do with idle. As a matter of fact, you shouldn't be able to detect EGR at all, it does not affect the way the car runs in any way.
