Please just call me; "Schultz"

Some of you may have noticed, I've been gone for a week or so.
Some of you know I was scheduled for gastric bypass surgery. look here for info
I have had a few emails and pms, so heres the story.

First, I am recovering well.
I am stiff from the incisions, but that was to be expected.
I went in for surgery on the 18th of Aug. @ 10am, and was in my room by 3pm.
Everything seemed to have gone according to plan.
I was pretty dopey from the anesthetic and pain meds.
Somewhere around 8pm, We (my wife and I) saw that one of my incisions was leaking pretty bad.
The doctor came around soon after and we decided to wait and see if it was just a reaction to some of the anticoagulants they pumped me full of.
Thursday they decided I had other issues.
My red count was very low.
My white count was too high.
My BP was dangerously low.
My incision was leaking profusely.
I was back in the O.R. by 9am.
Apparently one of the arteries had not been closed completely and I had been bleeding internally all night.
I spent the rest of Thursday getting blood transfusions, since I had run out of my own.
I wasn't scared,
I chalk it up to the
"Shit Happens" category.
Now I begin the process of learning to use my new internals for eating against the ways I was taught as a kid.
I will post more later.
Or not if someone deems this too socially unacceptable.
My wife says I need to join a Forum for Bypass patients.
I say, you guys are my friends, I got nothing in common with them except stitches.
I would rather share with you than a bunch of whiny old fat people.
I've read their forums, they ain't my kind of people.
If this is TMI
I'll quit.
just let me know.

I dont think the doctors have been doing to good lately. I had a friend who had a scheduled heart bypass valve doodicky replacement about a week ago. They almost lost him and had to open him back up for a leak too. Oh well goes in spurts I suppose. The enginedoctor is still stitching em up though!

Glad you're doing better. Did you go to Beach General, Norfolk Gen or what? Learning to eat the new way is going to be interesting. We'll be thinking bout ya.

This is fine. We love you metroschultz.

I had a girl friend who was an operating room nursing student who, along with her room mates, would discuss what happened in OR - over dinner. :x :lol

Well it's kinda like Johnny "get it right the first time" Mullet doing a rebuild operation on a weekend without the internal leaks the next day.

Engines develop leaks...
Oil level gets low...
Oil in the coolant...
Idle is low and it shudders...
Time to get to the doctor because the compression is shot and the head gasket sprang a leak
Fresh oil transfusion at 100 and 500 miles.
Takes a few thousand miles to break in the new rings.

Yep, same thing, heard it all before. :lol

Praying for you. :thumb

I have no doubt you will pull through. Just stick to the "diet" and not think about eating. Boy am I glad I am no longer a suffer of hypoglacemia. Nothing like having to eat a snickers bar every 45 minutes or waking up as you are going into shock.

Docs are just mechanics for the body, everyone makes a mistake, just got to catch it quickly.

Maybe next time I see you I will mistake you for Rusty or Potter?

Funny thing you mentioned duct tape or duck tape if you buy it at walmart. I had a friend who had a nasty gash and bleeding, I did what anyone would do with limited medical training and a roll of duct tape, I wrapped up the area and got him to a hospital.

Schults, maybe they sliced you open to get the candy out? LOL
