Yes, they do tend to add more fat to offset the lack of sugar. Given that my daily intake of anything solid is less than 8 ounces total, it is not a concern yet. But, fat is not a concern anyway. Fat is one of those items I am allowed to eat as much as I want. No worries. Cholesterol is good. In fact better now than before. My numbers have always been low. >125 every time they checked. ...Which leads me to an anecdote; I used to go to the cholesterol screenings they would offer in the local malls. You know the one where they prick your finger. (hehe he said "prick") My numbers would come in at or below 125. (Cholesterol is supposed to be less than 200) Then the pseudo nurse would make some comment like; "You must eat a lot of salads". (remember I was a "fat bastard") I would raise my thumbs and say (in my outside voice) "Burgers and fries all the way baby!"My good cholesterol was too low before, bad cholesterol was normal. Now my good cholesterol is normal and the bad is low. Last 2 times they checked total was 155, 149, so my total went up but the ratio went in the right direction. And I am eating a lot of fattier stuff now than before. Go Figure! Most of the food companies are avoiding aspartame for those reasons. The stuff we have been getting is mostly "Splenda" (Sucralose, or regular sugar turned inside out). I think the only time I've seen aspartame in the last couple months is at 7-11 or Wawa in the coffee corner. |

Come on metroschultz, give up on eating and do what you want to do. Spend that time trying to eat stuff that is unhealthy for you working on your own car or those college students across the street from you. i had the bird flu a few years ago and it "cured" me of being hypoglycemic. I use to have to eat a snickers bar every 15 minutes, now I can do 2 meals a day if I am busy or even less. Yeah, as a fat bastard who eats out a lot and gets his food from the roach coach despite my parents expectations, I always have good cholesterol. My mom eats nothing but plants, pbj sandwiches, no meat at all and she has to take medication to regulate it. I jokingly tell her its all the red vegetables she eats. Lastly : I can actually sit in the back of my own geo. WOOHOO!!!!! Now thats an accomplishment to be able to sit in the rear of your 3 door hatch back geo after entering it from either door vs just rolling in the back hatch door.

![]() I'm not overweight, per say, but could loose some pounds. I eat a lot of pastry with my coffee; cinnamon toast for breakfast, diet soda, hot dogs, Ramen, burritos, and basically junk food except what healthy food the Wife serves. Disgusting thing is my blood pressure is just under normal. She won't take it anymore. Why so low.. Decades of bicycling. metroschultz, my dentist got me hooked on "diet" soda. Diet Dew is better for my teeth. I have not seen a mall in 2 years.

197# this a.m. Nothing really outstanding this past week. I have been taking solid food for dinner at work. 4 oz. of re-fried beans with salsa and cheese. (in the future will be called pintos and cheese.) 4 oz. Edamame salad. (soy beans with, roasted corn and some other stuff, dressed in vinaigrette) 6 - 8 oz. of soup or meat salad. 8 oz. fruit. I don't take all of this in on e day. I pick a 1 or 2 of the main dishes and carry the fruit. Then (of course) I have my liquids. Have to intake 64 0z. minimum every day. Let tell you about edamame, Barb and I are in the store the other day, She sees the edamame in the deli section, She asks if I think I will like this, I look and say "Yeah, I like edamame." She knows I don't like lima beans. So she wonders why I like edamame. I ask her what she thinks it is. She is real bad at not reading a label and just thinking she knows what is in something by the picture. She tells me it is lima beans and corn. I laugh as I tell her what it really is. She is not sure if she likes soy beans. I tell her she does. (I know I do, but I am also the only 'guy' I know who likes tofu. Real tofu, (bean curd) comes in a block, looks like cream cheese, tastes like water, mixes with anything, tofu.) She wants to know how I can be so sure. I tell her," cause you like chinese food, duh!" "??WHAT??" "All the chinese we eat has tofu in it, those little chunks that look like chicken fat, those are tofu, you eat and like those don't you?" "Oh, O.K." So, how was your week? (edit) So I was just replying to another thread, where we got way off track and wanted to say; I reread this thread the other day, Some of you have apologized for a hijack. No worries, all is forgiven. I like a little detour now and then. If we get too far off track, I will point us back, If I can't I know some guys who will. So an update to the update; Today's intake so far; 12oz. protein drink = 12 oz liquid + 32 gram protein, 12oz. V8 = 12 oz liquid + 3 gram protein, 12 oz. coffee = 12 oz liquid + 0 protein, 2 eggs scrambled = 2 oz liquid and 16 gram protein totals; 38 oz liquid, 51 gram protein. or 60% liquid 70% protein for the day already. I have found that as far as liquid goes, I have no issues with getting the required intake daily. I like to drink, before surgery it was not unusual for me to drink a gallon a day. Protein is a whole different story. This is actually a day where I am ahead of the ball in protein intake. I will make the minimum and maybe even reach optimum. Usually I am sliding in at the last minute of the day just a little short. Minimum is 60 grams, I have had days that were less than that. Optimum is 75 grams, and after 100 grams your body starts to flush it all out. ??? yup, even the protein you should keep, get flushed away by your kidneys and liver. Damn you internal organs!! Tofu? "Many parts are edible." Depends on how it is prepared. By its self pretty tasteless though. |

I've been doing nursing for the last 13+ years. NOTHING is TMI for me. Hope you get well soon. BTW, I also like Tofu, especially since I'm starting the last week of my Daniel Fast. Tonight I'm making a big pot of chili and it will have two blocks of crumbled tofu in it in place of the hamburger. I've learned to eat lots of new and exciting foods this past year. wizard93 Edited by wizard93, Jan 22 2011, 08:12 PM.

Keep on, I enjoy reading. Its not like I get to visit you every other weekend. I am almost down a notch on my belt. At least I can sit in the back seat of my metro through either door and folding down the front seat. Ive tried the tufu squares, but they leave me with a head ache. Guess its missing a mineral or something? Ive heard its like a gram of protein per lb of body weight, but you system can only absorbe less than 40 grams at a time. I use to get those 50 gram slams from GNC and had quite a few people tell me that. Anything less than 40 grams and I still feel hungry. Keep it up. |

Still 197# No worries though. Saw the Doc. the other day, If I am happy with this weight, (which I am ) then keep on doing what I'm doing. I may not have lost any weight for 3 weeks, but I have gone down 2 inches in the waist. This leads me to believe I am actually moving weight from my middle back to my upper torso. (!Where it belongs, !Dammit!)I eat a lot of chicken, eggs and fish now. I have no issues with fried foods. (long as I stay away from the carbs, did I tell you; "Carbs are EVIL!) I bought 2 pounds of chicken legs and 3 pounds of thighs the other day. I asked my daughter, you know, the one who went to culinary school, the one who cooks for fun, the one who makes all kinds of food and baked goods for her friends, to fry it up for me. Answer; "I can't fry chicken" !!!WTF!!! I learned that frying food is not her forte. So, I asked Google how to fry chicken, I would ask my mom, (she makes the best fried chicken, !!!EVER!!!) but she was asleep (she's an early to bed type) I soaked it overnight, seasoned it with a mixture of herbs and spices, (move over Colonel) and fried me some chicken. Taste is outstanding. Some of the pieces got a little 'extra crispy' though. So I need me some more practice. When I go see her this year, I will ask for a lesson in pan frying chicken. 1 chicken leg = 10 grams protein 1 thigh = 18 grams. slice quiche = 20 grams. peanut butter = 5 grams. so today I've had 53 grams of protein. One he!! of a good start to my daily intake. Cobb, I've looked, and asked the Doc., I need 75 grams for 200# of weight. 100 grams max, anything more and it is wasted. Excess protein also causes liver and kidney damage. That leads me to believe the optimum is 1 gram for 2 pounds of weight. I didn't check the body builder stuff though. They may recommend more to compensate for the damage to muscle tissue during strength training exercise. I am not into big time body building (?Yet?) so I think you and I ought to stay on the low side of the scale. (I'm really fond of my liver and kidneys) Got up @ 06:00, Walk the dog for 1 mile, (we are taking the little dog and my daughter along now, so we have to work them up slow) Fix the garbage disposer, replace the belt system on a Plymouth Voyager with the new and improved, upgraded system, Walk/Jog again, 1 mile for me. Hang with you guys for a while, Now I gotta get ready for work. TTFN |

PT is getting easier and easier. Run whenever you can. don't let the boss see you. Use heavy objects at work for a quick dead-lift rep/set. I tie 4 bottles of antifreeze together and make 2 sets, then lift as I carry to a truck. Guys used to laugh, now they see a diff in my ability. I can lift the 22.5s into position now without a bar. Gotta go. |
