Jitt, I gave up on trying to do any push-ups last week. Too much pain. Let the damn thing heal first. Then start over. 189# is great. That is 96# since last August, or 161# since 2005. I was going to save a pair of my "Fat" pants, but they left when we moved. So, back to where I was. Didn't eat the whole hot-dog, gave the last bite to my dog. I feel great. I am about tired of everyone who sees me making the "Skinny Minnie" comment. I get it, I look way different now. That was the desired outcome. At least get your own lines, be original. There are people at the P.O. that I only see occasionally. They are all astonished when they see what I have done. One guy, 'Doc' Walker (his real first name is Lovelace, no relation to Linda) , said; "Holy Smoke, where did you send it all?" One of the guys in the locker room at the time says; "He is distributing it to the rest of us." I still can't tolerate beef. No way/shape/form. So when the daughter cooks, she uses ground turkey instead of beef in the recipes. Girl Scout cookies are evil. I love Girl Scout cookies. I can not eat them. I had one 2 days ago. It about killed me. Not sure it was worth it yet. Jury still out on that one. !!!!!CAUTION!!!!! off color joke When does Cub Scout get to be a Boy scout? When he eats his first 'Brownie'. |

I gave up beef after y2k, dont miss it at all. I was told I could eat bull or bufflo burgers with no problems, maybe even free range beef. Never bothered. I too eat ground turkey, chicken. Whats that joke about Greece? How do you seperate the men from the boys? With a crow bar.

Shoulder seems fine now. I use that arm more because I am right handed. I also have arthritis in that shoulder so that hinders me a little as well. But, overall, it seems to be doing well. Now I just have to stop abusing it. |

Well....................................... The shit has hit the fan. I haven't posted in a while, because I really had nothing to report. I tried Buffalo meat, I was told it would be easier to digest than beef, but they were wrong about that. I thought, 2 weeks ago, my asthma was acting up. It got real bad last Monday, the 4th, when I couldn't get past 20 push-ups. O.K. I says to me, just low lung capacity. Try again Wednesday. Wednesday gets here, same problem. Thursday a.m. go see my family doc. He does a little testing, hears my lungs wheezing, ups my asthma meds. Go home. Rest. I got no energy at work Friday. I force myself to get work done on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday night I can not sleep at all. I was fighting for every breath I took. 5a.m. I wake the wife and tell her, This is over tonight, I'm headed to the E.R. She gets dressed and away we go. Here we set. waiting. see the doc on duty. She listens to my chest, orders a breathing treatment. I explain that I have a nebulizer at home and that didn't help an hour ago. S.O.P. I am told. So that didn't work. They take a chest x-ray. Looking for pneumonia. Found fluid all right. Wrapped around my lungs and heart. Not in my lungs as was suspected. Sent for a cat scan to determine the extent. I am then told I have gone into; "Congestive Heart Failure" It has been building for 2 weeks. It is a self feeding cycle. Something weakened my heart. Probably the meningitis virus I got a month ago. Heart don't work good, fluid builds around it. Fluid squeezes the heart, heart can't work well, and so on, and so on... So, Today, I've had a stress test, and my second echo-cardiogram, and all appears normal. There are no dead spots on my heart, no indication of past attacks, no blocked arteries, no pulmonary reason for the congestive failure. So, prognosis is good. Full recovery. But after the weakening that has occurred, it will take a while to get back all my strength.. Minimum of 6 months. With diet, medication, exercise. I am going to have to forgo the 100 push-ups for a while. My exercise will be mostly heart building stuff for the next 6 to 12 months. First we get the heart back to capacity. Then we get the lungs back, Then we go back to strength training. Well, that's been my week. How's yours? BTW, I've been told, if I still weighed in @ 280#, I'd probably be dead. This would have gone from congestive failure to heart attack in a day. So all the work I have put into my health, has saved my life. I am still a little pissed about the whole thing though.I've been doing this to avoid any heart health problems, and they chased me down any way. Edited by metroschultz, Apr 13 2011, 12:13 PM.

Wow. But the punch line is; if you still weighed #280.... Very happy that you caught it in time and were persistent in finding the cause. Hang in there and as Coche says, take it easy.. |

Wow, metroschultz, you had a close call. So glad they found the cause. On the bright side; the heart is a muscle you can exercise. Can't do that with a kidney or liver...for that, you wait for a transplant. Now, where's that thread with the 'always look on the bright side of life' video?

thank God , you're okay and no MI ( myocardial infarction) occured during your CHF. based on your story, i would suggest you go visit a physiatrist(rehabilitation doctor -- specialized in neuromusculoskeletal cases) or even a physical therapist and they will evaluate you and give you personalized cardiac/pulmo rehab program..... push-ups is NOT recommended for people with status post HEART cases. working out the upper extremity ( from shoulders to fingers) puts a lot of stress on the heart ( since it is much closer to the heart). working out the lower extremity (hips to toes) is better since it doesnt put too much stress in the heart and builds up good circulation to pump up the blood back to the heart. bottomline, CHF is a serious incident and you should consider seeing a specialist. work it out with your health care providers ( team of doctors and therapists) to attain and execute an effective personalized program for you. and you should commit yourself to it and give your 110% involvement and cooperation and of course with the help of people around you including fellow geo's (geometronian?) lol..... so no BEER & BBQ for you in any of geopalooza's, lol you are a great guy so take care of yourself. Good luck and stay healthy :-) |

Glad to hear you are ok. Just because you lost 300 lbs doesnt mean you need to prove anything physically. My dad has that. Its because he lives a cat life due to arthridas and some spinal problems, sleeps, eats, naps, eat, sleeps, eats, etc. He also breaths harder when its acting up and we get him to take the pee medication that makes him get up and go. Its like pnumonia of hte heart so to speak. It makes the heart work harder then it needs to. Maybe if you are free one Saturday I can come by? |
