A doctor and his mechanic friend was arguing about how difficult their jobs were. The mechanic went on and on about how complex autos were. The doctor listened and said "Good point and I agree. Now go replace the oil pump that Mercedes with the engine running."

(I liked the engine one better) ![]() Mechanic vs Doctor A mechanic was removing a cylinder-head from the motor of a Dodge when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop. The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?" The cardiologist, a bit surprised, walked over to where the mechanic was working on the car. The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc, look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, repair any damage, and then put them back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how can I make 39,675 a year, a pretty small salary, and you get the really big bucks, $1,695,759, when you and I are doing basically the same work?" The cardiologist paused, smiled and leaned over, then whispered to the mechanic... ''Try doing it with the engine running." |

I'm doing pretty good today. I walked 4 blocks and my back hurts more than my sutures. Probably from walking hunched over. Got to get walking upright. EDG - I don't think I'll ever have chitterlings agin. I've tried grits 2x in the past 4 days and they tear me up. Chitterlings will be in a month. Got to follow the schedule. BeachB - what? you wanna do my tummy, arm, leg, @ss tuck in a bout 3 years? CB - I weighed over 350# 4 years ago. Got down to 280# with my doctors help and stuck there. 262# this am. 180# is the doctors goal weight for me. I will be happy to get under 200#. I'm only 5' 6". JM - Thanks for letting me use the forum to vent, cry, regale, or whatever. I'll keep it clean, mostly. Bogs - I lost 4 units of blood to my insides, quite scary to think about it now. I only had 2 of my own left. CarNut - Norfolk Sentara General Hospital in the new River Pavilion wing. They have a whole section set up for gastric patients now. Get to share O.R.s with the heart guys. Cobb - I was hypoglycemic as well. I used to faint for no apparent reason then drink a Gatorade and be fine, like nothing happened. Other side of the Diabetes coin. Don't have to worry about either now. Thanks for all the kind words guys. It's only been a week since I had the bypass, and I don't have any pants that fit. My wife bought me 2 pair of short with pull strings so I don't waltz nekked around the house. Starting to worry about how I am going to pay for the new wardrobe. Uniform guy at work says I can only trade in my duds 1x a year for new size. I am going to test him on that. |

I'm so happy to hear that you are enough overweight to get this, I see so many people that are <100lbs over getting it done...I didn't think it was "legal" for them to do that. Best of luck, get used to that stomach.

Cobb - You are welcome to anything in my closet. Most of my stuff is 3x, so take your pick. You want grungies or nice stuff? Like Hawaiian shirts? I have lots of those. CB - It is not so much the total weight but the BMI. If you are "supposed to weigh 100 and you weigh 160, your BMI will put you in range for the surgery. They also look at whether or not you have other weight related health issues. For instance, your BMI is @35 and you have diabetes, The BMI is just under the recommended, but the diabetes puts you at serious risk, so you qualify. FWIW my BMI was 49 = 49% of my weight was raw fat. |

Take it one day at a time. Glad to see you came through it all okay. Catch up on some long over do reading, relax at the park, reflect on how great it is to be alive, watch children run and play, there's so much to appreciate... and know that we all appreciate you! |
