So I'm going to have to use the money they give me to buy it back broken? Should I start taking the good parts that wont be missed off? Like all my interrior stuff. I have 3 weeks to get this all sorted out. Whats not done in 3 weeks is going to have to wait until after the gatlinburg tn honeymoon. Thanks for the support, and the prick ass cops comment was prob. referring to the time it took them to get there. I'm sure they were stuck in the High School traffic, I think we all can appreciate...how High School kids drive. I was one of them not too long ago... |

Its not an issue in TN either, but some states won't let you register, and some insurance companies won't insure salvage title cars, as well some people are weary of them and won't pay as much for a car with a salvage title. Its something to avoid if you can, plus when you pay to get the car back from the insurance company you end up with less money than if you can get the maximum with out totaling. |

here in nevada and when i lived in calif., if you totaled out yr car, they wrote out a check if you decided its really not worth it to fix it and if it can still drive well then you get the money for whatever you want to do with...along w/ a salvage title, so yes if you were to sell it afterwards it may not sell too quickly due to the salvage title but at least you kept the car, etc... ive seen salvage or totalled cars look perfectly normal!!! my old toyota was salvaged twice, once with my mom when she had a spin out on the freeway in calif. and me, here in nevada, when an unsupervised kid in a minivan released the brake and hit my car leaving me trapped a bit since the front end was by my door ....it only had a dent that costed several hundred dollars to fix and the car wasnt worth that much, so i said just give me the amount that it would cost to fix it on a check...the car was worth like $700.00 approx., and to fix the damage was $650.00!! ...got to keep my car and the check and titled it as salvaged...no problem at dmv to make it that way the following 2 yrs or so that i had it (sold it last year)...im quite confused as to why different states make the rules so much harder for people who have minor to moderate accidents that dont cause much damage to their cars only to have them taken away?! sorry for the long ranting story ...glad yr ok bryan...never fun to have an accident...

I think it was Florida that you couldn't register it if it had a salvage title. So on ebay you could find wrecked cars for cheap like Mustangs and pickups for like $1000-2000. No problem if you live in another state to register. Some body shops would buy these cars cheap and take to a neighboring state to get inspected and re-titled (so no salvage title after this) and then bring back to Florida to sell as any other car. To me if it was repaired correctly or had minor damage to begin with it wouldn't bother me in the least. |

I have people do the same when I am in my F250, so I think its more that some people just can't drive. They obviously can't claim they don't see that truck coming ![]() True enough a properly repaired car should be fine to buy or drive, the problem is determining the skill and actual repairs done by the repairer. As stated above, many people will avoid buying a salvage car simply because you'd literally have to take it down to the frame to make sure everything was done correctly, something your average joe or professional even would be unlikely to do. Mind you, on a car that is as old and as cheap as a Metro, totaling it out by the insurance company would include nearly everything (i.e. a bumper replacement would probably be more than the car is worth, an airbag replacement DEFINITELY would be). The problem from the buyers p.o.v. is that he doesn't know why it was salvaged, and has to base his decision to buy on whether or not the seller is accurate and honest, which is something else you just don't know. Bryan, I am glad to hear that you so far feel ok, be mindful that may change as a lot of times the extent of an injury may not be readily apparent but will become so over time. Don't just shrug off new feelings of pain, or the 'all of a sudden' shooting pains you may feel when doing normal activities. |

My back is feeling better. Insurance is sending pics off for an estimate. I can buy it back for a max of 200 deducted from what they end up giving me. I will know for sure on Monday how much. He gave me credit for every last mod I had done to the car including the rebuilt engine (not done by me..) the new clutch (me) and all sorts of stuff. Today i went to the salvage yard and got the following to fix her up. New exhaust...its ridiculous I'll upload pics when I can. Extra RPM Gauge Extra MPH Gauge With Trip meter Fuel Sensor Fuel Tank bolts The automatic Vaccum Adjuster (fucking finially looked everywhere) 3 unbroken door handle decorations Door Pops Extra Switch Dash Cover thingys Ideas on how to mount speakers on the dash. Extra EGR Valve Speedo Cable Clip 6 Extra Relays Tons of Fuses And thats about it |

I had the hood fly up on me today. Granted I was going 88.5 and the bungie cord was holding the hood down. It flew up half way then slowed the car way way down then dropped back down. It was hilarious. We were even video taping us driving to Heber Springs but the camera ran out of battery right when It happened. You can hear me go "what the f" then it cuts off. Epic. |

had the hood come up on me in an old escort i used to drive. it had a 4x4 for a front bumper and a new aftermarket hood, but the latch was broken. semi truck flew by on a 2 lane road and blew the hood all the way back and touched the roof line (heard a bang). dented the hood slightly, and broke the bungy cord that was holding it closed. needless to say i bought a latch that day. |

I had a customer once who lost his hood on the Delaware Memorial Bridge. This is a large bridge that goes over the Chesapeake bay in Delaware. Lots of cross wind. He didn't close it all the way after checking his oil while fueling before crossing. I can only imagine what the boaters in the bay thought as they saw this hood flying through the air at them. Me? I laughed my a$$ off when he came to the shop to ask if I could fix it for him. |
