Interesting how my steering wheel is coming apart and my dashboard is holding up quite well.No drying or cracking. I was thinking about putting armor all on the dash after I clean the interior and wash the dash with mild soap but I was told years ago that over a period of time armor all dries the surface you are applying it on. Anybody have problems with this over time?

if it is an epoxy, it is a two part product.

JBWeld is available in the quick setting clearer liquid or the grey/black putty version. Be surprised what you can fix on a 72 Beetle with JBWeld.

Mine is doing this too. I guess when they redid the dashboard to keep it from rotting away, they used all the leftover plastic on the steering wheels.
:lol :lol :lol Woodie, I was thinking the same thing but you said it first! My 95 has good wheel but bad dash. My 98 has good dash but bad wheel. A wheel isn't that bad to change but around here most JYs wont sell just wheel. They want you to buy whole column with wheel.

Golf Club Grip Tape after you fill in the empty spots with heater hose so you will have some cushion under the tape.

Duct tape heals all wounds

Although not as cheap a solution, I notice no one mentioned any of the aftermarket steering wheels available.

and of course, there is the latest new craze the carpenters have began using, some 2 part stuff commonly referred to as bondo. You can mold, shape, and manipulate the stuff until it looks how you want it to.

bet you could even put the finger grips on the back side of the wheel to keep your hands from slipping

Bondo has been around for a very, very long time. It is not only for autos. It has many uses.
I guess you have not been aware of it.
