If anyone knows any fun things to do between Austin, AR and Gatlinburg TN I'd like to know. We are headed up to the smokeys for our honey moon to camp and to see the classic car show thats up there. We are also looking for some cheap camp sites that are up there. Wife is prob. going to insist on a campsite with a bathroom on the site, or one near enough for me to drive her. What all would you pack as far as tools? I pulled the covers off either side of the rear seat to store my tools in. They were then coated with great stuff to stop sound, and then I went over it with noise dampening rubber spray stuff. I'm going to put all my tools in here out of the way then put the covers back on. Then I'm going to carry a Phillips head screw to take the covers off if I need any tools. The rear seat will also be removed. Thx for any help or advice in advance! |

I carry a socket set with ratchet, screwdrivers, maybe for a trip the 30mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet. Some 3/8" extensions, rags, An extra timing belt, 2 quarts of oil, water, a piece of sandpaper, a tube of grease, Duct tape. Basics, eh.

If you are going to Gatlinburg Tn dont carry nothing but a lot of money! Well just know that everything is expensive. Elkmont campground is close and nice. Me and my wife spent our moon there as well, after our car broke down headed to hot springs on our real moon of which we spent it in a place called bald knob. We were going down the highway about 9 at night and the car lost all electrical and I coasted up a off ramp to the top of a overpass. Got out and opened the hood to take a look and for what reason I dont know because it was pitch dark and couldnt see a thing! There was a motel on the other side of the overpass and I gave the car a shove and we coasted to the motel and coasted right up to a room. I got out and looked at the door number, went in and told the clerk I wanted that number right there. Had my brother inlaw come the next day with a trailer and get us home. Two years later we spent about a week in a tent at elkmont campgrounds. Had a blast. Heres info on it, http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70968 Fall creek falls is a place worth seeing also. You might want to look into that. Yeah the ripleys aquarium is nice. First time I went in there it was sharp, the last time it smelled fishy big time! I would suppose they fixed their ventilation system some kind of way to take care of that problem. The mexican restaurant by the river by the aquarium is a nice place to eat if you like mexican food. Watch your speed thru knoxville and on the edges of memphis or you will be making a unwanted donation for sure other than that it should be smooth sailing. |

Check out www.speedtrap.org.For my town it says... "Speed limit is set to 25 mph as Hwy 55 goes through McCall. Go 2-3 mph over 25 and you risk a ticket or getting pulled over. This is a small community with way too many cops that are bored. Never mind busting for drugs, let's get those deadly 27-28 mph speeders. Also, don't try to pass on the right if someone is turning left on the one-lane street. We want the traffic backed up!!"

I enjoyed a trip to Telford TN many years ago about 1993. Pretty close to Dollywood. Having grown up in L.A. area before moving to Oregon in 1980, this was the first time to see real lightning bugs. Way cool, sorry about the high humidity but we really enjoyed that trip. |

I'm in Cookeville, TN you'll probably be driving right past me on I-40 Fall Creek falls is a really nice park, Its about 45 minutes south of I-40 at exit 288, I think that's the exit may be 1 before or after (its the highway 111 exit), one of the nicest parks in the state IMHO. Its kinda out of the way if you're headed to Gatlinburg, but its on the way if you're going to Chattanooga. Be warned, entering Gatlinburg, traffic is really really bad during the day, its pretty easy to get in or out in the early AM or late at night. There's only 1 road into the area, and you have to go through Pigeon Forge which is a very busy shopping area. I feel that Gatlinburg has become a tourist trap area, get out of the center part of the city so you can enjoy the area, go up in the mountains, its very pretty once you get away from the crowds.

it has been years since i was there, but in pigeon forge, right on the north side of the main road to gatlinburg, there was a restaraunt called the apple house. that was a pretty good place to eat and not as expensive as the corporate joints. congrats on your marriage and honeymoon. |
