Sometimes, a screw-up is a good thing!

Called to get a tracking number on Gary's transplant. Turns out it hadn't shipped yet (a week and a half later), but was about to. Verified the info, 1.3L '97 Metro AT, and they said "yes, a 1.3L from a PRIZM AT". What? Ok, quick look at Wikipedia, tell them its either 1.6L or 1.8L and won't work.

They determine its a clerical error (not 1.3L) and agree it won't work in Gary. Actually thanked me for catching it before ship!

So, now Gary gets a 73K mile engine ($700) instead of an 81K mile ($550) one, for the original $550!

Sweet!

Serendipity!

Called back to get the new tracking number for the transplant. It has shipped; they gave me a BOL # and arrive date (9/30), but won't get tracking until Monday. Since they had the lading in front of them I asked for the weight. 325lbs!?! Now, from Bill CNC and Bad Bent I was expecting around 150lbs.

First thought: "Crap, they screwed it up again!"

Turns out, the original order was for an 81K mile core engine. This one that shipped is a 73K mile full engine (for the original price!).

Gary's not just getting a new heart, but also lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and maybe a spleen!

(Intake manifold, throttle body, valve cover, oil pan, distributor and starter! Maybe water pump. No alternator. Exhaust manifold unlikely.)

Sweetness x2 !!!

Ha, ... Their is no way in hell that a 1.3L weighs in at 325 pounds and I seriously doubt it will even weigh 2/3 of that with an over built shipping crate.

Like I said, ... I was able to pick up the trans and the engine and walk with it about 25'.

When it arrives at the house, ... open the crate and give her a lift, ... but use your legs and not your back.

Believe their SOP is to pad weight by at least 50lbs--something to do with exorbitant shipping cost penalty if they understate the weight. So that could put it around 200lbs with a beefy crate.

And unlike Bill CNC, Stately is a girly-man! No way I'm dead-lifting an engine . . . bad back . . . bad shoulder . . . one leg . . . whine, whine whine . . . :)

Dammit.

Bogs, you were spot-on! Stepped in that hole, broke the leg, and spotted the nugget.

Shipping has been delayed and might miss the Saturday OR scheduling for Gary's transplant. They are extending the eval/return period from 30 to 90 days, and refunding $100.

If it keeps going like this, I'll get an entire Metro--and for free--but it will never arrive! Screw you, Murphy! :'(

LOL sorry, too funny. Yeah eventually they'll just ship you a whole car, from Japan, for free, but it'll take 5 years to get there.

I'd wait that long for that deal, the car would only have 45k miles and be rust free and in like new condition :lol I said it before, I'll say it again, you lucky @#$% :lol

Hahahaha . . . that's just wrong! :)

BTW - they did miss before TODAY for the engine delivery . . . but, did get a real tracking number that shows its progress here. Strange thing, though, is that after the company said his transplant was coming from New Hampshire (so Gary was put through grueling aversion therapy for LL Bean), the tracking shows it came from Pensacola! (Missing your engine, billy508?)

So what now? Miami vice? :'(
