Removal of '93 Dash Vents?; Wanting To Color Match Some Pieces

I am looking to spray some of the interior pieces to color match the car. Anyone had any experience pulling out the vent pieces without breaking them that can give a quick tutorial? I would like to spray the Vent Trim pieces and the actual Vents (The adjustable pieces).

The Defrost ones on the top left and right of the dash look like they may just pop out, but they are stubborn and I dont want to break anything. The side vents and the center vents look as though the pieces will just snap right out. Or do I have to remove the trim first then each vent slat?

Any help would be awesome

Take a look at the posts in this search: http://geometroforum.com/search=dash+vents and particularly Bill CNC's work in 1997 Geo Metro LSi, 1.3L, 2dr Hatchback however, that is a 1997. I do not know of anyone who has done a tutorial so you may be the first.

Personally, I got in from the back. That means removing a few panels, such as the center console panel, etc. From there, run your hand down the vent tubes, to the back of the vents. There are 2 clips, one on each side of the vent.

Be very careful, the plastic is old and brittle, and you can easily mess it up.

There might be an easier way, but this is the best way I know of at the moment.

Be VERY prepared to take a trip to the Junk yard for those vents. Like Slander said, ... They are old, dry and VERY BRITTLE. The connecting pins and the connectors themselves are their week spot. In my restoration thread, that Bad Bent provided ... I do go through pulling repairing and painting them.

Those door panels, in particular, look very nice, Bill.

Thanks Slander,
