Wow billy a lot of information. There is a lot of students who wouldn't or couldn't go to school otherwise but I think Obama sealed the deal and will probably never go the other way.

Problem is, most shouldn't. We've gotten to the point that an obscenely expensive college "education" (in many cases, nothing more than communist indoctrination) is now considered the bare minimum to enter the workforce.

About two thirds of the workforce have no use whatsoever for a degree.

I attend Western Michigan University and due to Michigan's dismal economy, state-funding to publics continues to decline. We're all taking out loans. Tuition is the primary funding source now; in 1999, 2/3 of the budget was state funding.

I remember back in 2001, WMU's fleet license plates read "State-Owned". Now, they just have the basic "Municipal" government plate.

Nowadays, employers find the master's degree much more desirable. The bachelor's degree is now the new associate's degree. With such a high unemployment rate, employers can be very choosey now.

People are also choosing the wrong majors. At WMU, we have a highly-accredited theatre, dance and music program. Students like the reputation. They come here from all over, and they're just drowning.

Or those students who major in philosophy, English, etc. To actually use such a degree, you may as well get your master's to teach at a community college, or earn a Ph.D. to instruct at a university.

I've noticed at WMU, too many students are majoring in fields that are not in demand. Yes, it's nice to major in something that you enjoy and/or are good at. But, you have to look realistically (as my dad stated).

So many people are working in fields that aren't even related to what their college major (or minor) was. Have to agree with you, Woodie, on that.
